I am officially Over-eager! (already packed haha) Leaving Friday, and the final count for our group is Me, my beautiful wife Shelly, BIL John, and 2 of the boys (Matt, 13 & Cory, 14).
We'll be at the tracks, and keeping an eye out for other JHO'ers. Good luck to all, and here's for a safe hunt!

Hey HH,
Yeah, I have been taking the kids long before they were old enough to hunt. My daughter took one from CR on her first actual hunt, when she turned 12. Cory got one last year. Matt's still trying. This will be his 3rd trip actually hunting, but he's been with me numerous times at both CR and Laguna Mt. learning the ropes.

We'll be at the tracks with a silver Tucson, in a big blk/wht/yel tent. Gas is too expensive for the MH. We ought to be rolling in about 5pm or so. My BIL will be coming in a couple hours after that. Drop by, if you see us!

What's the average distance for a shot at Camp Roberts? I hunted there once but my brother and I did not pursue it very seriously. I'd like to hunt as much as possible this year and am looking for any area with a decent chance of at least seeing a pig.

Well, I have seen pigs on several trips, but no, I have not connected yet. That place drives me crazy! I get soooo close. People in my group have shot and missed at close range. I have FOLLOWED them by SIGHT, at night, tracking their route. I have seen them cover a hundred yards before I could move 10 yards for a clear shot. They have exited brush, as soon as I got into too far to get out in time for a shot. AND I swear I heard them laughing at me on more than one occasion.

If you go to Laguna again, Blastmaster, can you let me know? Maybe I can learn a bit more about the place than what I found out in several trips hunting by myself - and we can join for a hunt?

Just an update on the CR hunt. We made it to the tracks at about 1 p.m. Friday. It was a nice day for a few hours and the wind started up. By 5p.m. I had my tent tied off to a tree and the truck to keep it upright. Hunted Saturday morning. While in area 2 I got into the ticks pretty good. There were only 3 taken as of Saturday evening. 2 out of area 5 and one from area 1. The wind started up at about noon again and I called it quits. Gunner was also going to call it day. Hunthard said he was staying till Monday evening.

Well were back and my hunt report goes like this I didnt see any hogs this trip out. My dad saw 1 about 7 pm saturday walking in the open going towereds the weat field but it was to far for a shot. it was hard to see any fresh sighn because there was sheep sighn every were i tried at the water holes and usually if the hogs had been there the puttle would be dirty and the trees that are around the water holes would be fresh mud on them but this time nothing. there were some hogs shot that they say was area 5 but in my gut feeling they were shot in area 6 down by the river. because we hunted area 5 pretty hard and saw quite of bit of people over there but we never heard a shot but then again it could have been because it was so windy. All in All we had a good time and it was a whole lot better than work lol. clinton maybe next time well get them.

It looks like it was tough hunting for everyone. We didn't get anything this trip either.
The first morning, while Matt watched an open area next to some brush, my wife an I pressed the edges looking for sign. She heard him making noise, and I got in a bit more, and found the bed he vacated. We worked the brush for about 30 minutes, and found where he slipped past us. Then, on Monday, Matt and Cory got chased a group out of the brush in area 6, but couldn't get a shot.
The best part...now my wife LOVES hunting! She wants to get her own gun, and go again as soon as possible! Ain't that great?!
