I'm glad you asked...I didn't even realize it was expected to tip a guide and I've got a hunt coming up.

I think it depends on many factors including the difficulty of the hunt, the services provided, your general experience and satisfaction, and of course where you hunt and for what. A 30k hunt in Africa is different than a paid guided hunt on a private ranch for hogs. Care to share details of your hunt?

As Bruce said, it depends. If your sheep hunting, and the guide has 20 guys out there every day searching for a trophy animal, on a once in a lifetime hunt, you take that into consideration, and tip appropriately; if you do get that trophy, you tip exceptionally well. The bottom line is that you should be considering the extent to which the guide goes to satisfy you and your realistic expectations (which should be realistic for the area, based on your {many} conversations with the guide, prior to the hunt; including trophy care buy the guide, proper trophy skinning...

Keep in mind that I have never done a guided hunt. However, I do fish, and if the crew of the boat goes above and beyond, I tip very well. If I win the jackpot, I not only tip, but I'm always a 100 percenter.

$100/ day is good if the earn it. That's what I tip a guide for a day hunt. Multiway hunts go up from there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the guide is a business owner. He is already getting 100% of what he thinks his service worth or market dictates. If he is good, he can raise his price same 10-15%. why to tip in this situation? I'm a business owner and provide personal service to people but i never been tipped nor expected to be...
If you go to a restaurant, you do not tip the restaurant owner, don't you?

Other story if he is an employee, but I'm not talking about that.

But again, it was only a question to understand the rules of the game...
