Has anyone ever tried pig hunting at curry mountain or even deer hunting? Let me know your experience even if it was bad.

Have not been there in at least ten years. A narrow walk-in access point. Pretty easy to get onto private property, so be careful.

Down towards the bottom of Curry Mountain there is water and deer and pigs. At least there use to be, as I have seen them from the road. The public part is void of water. Only tried the area a couple of times, with no success and little sign.

But if you have the time, check it out. It is free and even if you don't find anything, it is a nice hike. (Just be careful and son't stray on private property)

I think the only access point is a little past Coalinga on 198; as you get into the hills, just before Parkfield turnoff. There is a small parking area on the right hand side of the road, access point is on the left side --- and as you said, straight UP.

I live in coalinga and have hunted it a few times and yup the first half mile is straight up once you get to the top you can walk the ridge top and glass the bottom. During wet years there is water on the bottom. There is a trail that will lead you down and yes its about a half mile straight down and of course you have to come back out. All the brush on the back side does hold some deer. Take a map, once you get to the bottom you dont want to get off the public land.
