I got out there 3 times this season i was fortunate enough to fill my tag with a good size forked horn buck. The first two times i went out it was looking pretty bad i hadn't seen but one or two deer. We got a good storm last weekend and i hit it pretty hard the Monday after and i got him
. Just wondering how everyone else seems to be doing so far.

I can only hunt on Saturdays with my work schedule and have been going every weekend. Have seen 30 does and only 5 bucks, but never had a shot at one. Going to try a new spot this weekend on some really good info from a veteran hunter who used to run one of the pack stations. Congratulations on getting a buck, I hope to join the club after Saturday :)

Can i ask what zone your hunting and without giving up your exact location what area you prefer to hunt?

I don't mind, it's a big forest ;-). The deer I've seen were near Shaver Lake in D7 around 7500 ft. Also near Ponderosa in D8 road- NF21S50 also 6-7000 ft.

*Edit I should add, none of these deer were anywhere near a road. If that helps at all. Have to get out and walk for sure.

How about you? Mind sharing the general area you got your buck?

Yeah, there are a lot of deer up there in D7 in that area. It looks like we just had a couple isolated showers roll through both zones. Lots of cloud cover up there today. Full moon though, but who knows what will happen. Anyway good luck up there, we are going Friday and Saturday to the east boundaries of D8.

Well we only saw 5 does near beach meadow and a buck in the back of a pickup. Tons of fresh sign up there though. It looks like the buck the guy shot came out of the rattlesnake creek trail area. He had a trail bike and was just leaving the parking lot back in there near the trailhead. We put up a game camera on a heavily used deer trail, so we'll go check on it in a week or two and see if we find anything. I'll try and post whatever we find on the camera if its still there when we go back ;-).

Rattlesnake is a good place when weather hits, as it is a part of a migration route; but if it's a good storm, it won't last long.

Best of luck guys.

Bubblehide, thanks for the info. Do they generally stay down near the creek bed or do they use the sides of the canyon higher up when moving through that area. I know its pretty steep but I haven't been down in there yet.
