Deadline Extended to May 15, 2003 for G&F Youth Conservation Camp
04/11/2003
CHEYENNE -- Wyoming teenagers just got an extra chance to have a memorable summer with the Game and Fish Department extending the deadline to apply for the Youth Wildlife Conservation Camp.
Wyomingites 15-18 years old now have until May 15 to apply for the Aug. 3-8 camp at the base of the Wind River Mountains south of Dubois.
“We’re going to take a little more time to get the word out about the camp, so more kids will have a chance to turn in an application,” said Jake Hohl, G&F conservation education specialist.
The camp features hands-on activities for youngsters to experience outdoor survival, wildlife management and shooting skills. Lodging and meals are provided.
Participants are responsible for their own personal gear, including sleeping bag, hiking boots and rain garments and transportation to and from the camp. There is a $50 tuition charge to help defray costs. The check should be submitted with the application and is refunded to youngsters not chosen.
Campers are selected by a G&F panel based on the interests and desires of the applicant and the recommendation from a teacher or youth leader.
For applications or more information call (800) 842-1934. Applications must be returned to the G&F by May 15.
Except for 2001, the G&F has offered the camp annually to Wyoming youngsters since 1991 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp.
