Just for grins how many of you hunt on elevated blinds? and what do you think the advantages are about being up at least 8 ft off the groud versus a ground blind. I hunted ground blinds most of my life and now in my latter years I find the elevated solution gives me bettter view in the hill country providing there are some clearings around. Next I think the deer are always looking straight foward when they are walking to feeders and are not apparently thinking of danger from above. what do you guys think?

Hunting from a good elevated blind is my preferred way to hunt. You can see down into the brush, you can see game at longer distances, and if it is raining and cold, you have some protection from the elements.

We construct our own, and I must say, they were pretty nice. We had plexiglass windows that could be inserted for each window. We had a carpeted/grooved shelf in each corner to lean the gun against, and shelves for your binocs, shells, grunt tube etc (carpet helped to sound proof it). and it had a comfortable chair

The elevation definitely gives one more of an advantage to see into low lying areas, creeks, and pockets of brush. It may also help disperse your scent better too. My only complaint with some of the elevated stands I have been in, is that they are hard to get into and out of. Ive seen some with a platform on the back. Those look handy. Ours have either been a trap door style (dont really care for) or just a door on the outside with a ladder going to it.

Here is a photo of a very very high stand in S.Texas. A pipeline went by it and it overlooked a root plowed area. The biggest buck ever taken on this place was taken from this stand. It was not in very good shape when this pic was taken. When ever the wind was high, I wouldnt hunt it though, I didnt trust it that much.

I also really like hunting from a tripod. They enable one to get above the brush, and to have a secure rest. Ours is easy to carry in and set up for a day or 2. One thing I have noticed about deer, is that they will "check" a deer stand. They will look at it, and re-look at it, and evaluate it. The hunter has to remain still. Its like the deer know what it is there for. Thats why I like a tripod. They never had previous knowledge of it being there, so the hunter gets the advantage of surprise.

Mighty pretty! I hunted in Dryden with a friend once they had one of those elevated 20 ft off the ground blind for me I was scared up there the wind was blowing and the blind was weaving back and forth. I do have some about ten ft off the ground and a portable tri pod stand about six ft. That comes in handy. I will be using it this year. Thanks for the reply.
