I found my first fresh dropped shed today. It was a 4pt. side with the brow tine and g-2 busted up.Later in the day I added a matched set off a fresh dropped 5pt. set. Then added a old chewed piece of antler that was laying awhile. The 5pt. set, the two antlers were about 75yds.apart from each other.
I hit 5 different areas doing a quick scouting mission checking things out.Two areas looked like they might be nice to me later.I saw at least a dozen different buck in both those areas still carrying both sides. In another couple weeks things should be looking good!!
I also saw a big doe with a fawn from this year, both piebalds. The doe had alot of white on the bottom of all 4 legs and the fawn a big patch of white along her side.

Congrats on the early start! Most bucks still have bone attached here. Probably will do more scouting and recon for the next few weeks.

I did get one buck on one of my scouting cams that has lost both sides as of Jan 2.

Good luck! Now we got the ball roll'n!

I made it back out today with Stacy my 10yr.old.Still seeing the buck still carrying.I spotted my first half rack, but couldn't tell if he was busted off or shed.
We found 2 more old sheds (spikes) and a fresh dropped spike. We also found a dead deer another spike.Today was the day for spikes.
With still seeing alot of buck still carrying and Stacy not in the mood it was a short day looking today.
I'm hoping to head back out tomorrow solo to check out a new area.I was told there's some B&C buck roaming these woods.

We've been having a mild winter this year Taz,it was in the 40's again today and no snow since deer season.I've been seeing scapes still being worked, but believe the bulk of the breeding is done.

Shedhunternb I see your getting a mild winter too so far.Hope you add some sheds to your pile this week.Good luck!!

My new area was a total bust today.I saw a total of 6 deer,2 spike,a 8pt. and 3 doe.I walked a good bit of the 500 arce property and saw very little sign except in one spot near the back of the property there was alot of nice rubs.No fresh droppings or very many trails.

CamillusGeo-the season is still young.
My last 2 outtings were only a busted off antler each trip. It's hard to tell how long the first one layed, still fresh this year. The second antler today wasn't there the week before. The antler today was on a deer trail I walked out of the area I was searching and it wasn't there last week.
I saw a few more buck today that were missing one side.I saw another partial piebald doe today too.
btw-anything not attached to the skull counts as a shed in my book.Meaning busted off antlers.

I've added a few more sheds since last in here.I had one day last week where I added one more shed to the pile.It was another busted off antler.
Two days ago I added 5 more fresh sheds and 3 dead buck. The temps. were in the high 50's that day and I almost stepped on a garter snake.
Yesterday I was back out planning on searching a small section in one of my areas then moving to a different area.I wasn't there 5 mins. when I found a fresh Y shed.I continued my search and a little bit later found a big fresh Y side.Instead of sticking to my plan I stayed in that area and did some scouting.A walked the area out to the main road and back a 4 mile walk one way. When I got back to where I started I found the other side to the big Y.It was just past where I stopped looking earlier.
I then moved to a different area I wanted to check out.As I was walking there I spotted a couple deer working my way.It was a spike and a 6pt.To make a long story short, while I was watching the 6pt. the spike dropped one of his antlers.I looked for 45 mins. trying to find that antler with no luck. The woods were thick with leaves and it must have fallen just right burying in the leaves.I wasn't sure exactly where he was at when he dropped it too.I will be going back later with a rake to try and find that antler.
Things are starting to look good as far as the buck dropping.Pics to come.

When I go upstate Pa. to look for the elk sheds is when I have to worry about the snakes. They have rattlers up there, local I'm safe.

Time for an update. No big shed days up until yesterday, just a shed or two a day and skunked one day.
After Friday my shed count went up to 30 sheds for the year.
Friday I headed out for a few hours after working all night.I found 4 fresh sheds with two of them being a matched set laying together off a 8 pointer. One of the sheds came close to being a yard shed.It wasn't laying too far from a couple back yards.
Yesterday was the turning point in my season so far.Might just turn out to be the highlight of my season.I know it's my new one day shed record finding 21 sheds.
I was in an area that I figured would be good for a half dozen or so sheds, finding 21 was unreal. It was one of those days I could only dream of.
I started the day off early starting my searching around 9 in the morning and searching right up til dark and finding sheds up til dark.
Of the 21 sheds 5 were old sheds, one fresh busted off antler and the rest fresh this year. There were 2 matching sets in the bunch and they were the smallest sheds of the day with the exception of one of the old chewed sheds.
It'll be later in the week before I can make it back to look for mates for the sheds I found. There should be at least another 12 sheds out there some where to be found. Some of the sheds were nice size for my areas too.The biggest shed still had some fresh blood on the bottom of the base and looked like it had to have been dropped recently.Maybe some of the other halves were still being carried and will be laying when I return.
With my total at 30 sheds after Friday's hunt and my 21 sheds from yesterday,my new shed total is 51 sheds.

I was wondering what you had been doing since you hadn't posted an update in a while, WOW what a day you had! You found more sheds in one day then I'll probably find in the next 10 years! I'm green with envy. Great photos, I especially like the second to last one of the 4 pointer in the corn, the one in the backyard and the 2 small ones right next to each other.

Let me know if you are near SW Mich anytime soon so you can show me how it's done! lol
