I made a trip earlier in the week then again Thursday. and yesterday Friday..I started my day off by checking on the 8 pointer I've been watching. It didn't take long to find him and while watching him he started rubbing a tree with his antlers??I could hear him 75yds away as he worked the tree over.I have never found a shed next to a rub where it looked like the buck was working the tree when he dropped, but I was hoping. This went on for a couple mins. before he started walking off so I moved on myself.I couldn't get a clear pic of him as he was rubbing, but got one as he was walking off.
After taking the big 8's pic I started out of the area when I bumped into this smaller 8 bedded on the flat where I see these guys all the time. This was the buck running from one doe to the other the other week.
After seeing the deer were still carrying here I went to a different area that I did good in last year. Before heading to the other area I wanted to stop and check a small area right off the road down from this area.I was here the other day and saw 2 small buck, one a spike and a small 4pt. and both only had one side.I wasn't sure if they shed or were busted off so I wanted to check it out real fast.
Here I found dead buck number 6 laying down in a creek.
When I finally made it to the other area where I did good last year I spent about 2 hours looking before calling it a day.The sign was ok in there, nothing like it was last year. All I found in there was yet another dead buck,a small 4pt.
My next trip I was hoping to search an area where there was a chance of finding some old sheds since most the deer are still holding on to this years sheds.I searched some areas that extended out from some of my regular areas hoping to find some of those old sheds from those low percentage areas.I did a lot of walking and found a small area that was loaded with fresh sign. Here I found 2 old sheds, the first was pretty badly chewed and definately saw better days.
Next I found a little 3pt side that was in great shape.
And the 2 at home.
Yesterday I was back at it again.I went to an area I've searched in the past, but never found much.I drive by this place and see herds of deer out in the crop field next to some woods.I figured the fields would be a waste this early so concentrated on the woods.I hadn't been searching 10 mins. when I spotted an old antler.
After that first antler I searched the woods with no more finds.I knew the deer used these woods alot and like other times in here the deer would just disappear.I spent the next couple hours trying to figure out where the deer went from this piece of woods. There was a housing development on the back side with patches of woods running between the houses. These houses are those 1/2 million dollar mansions with the 5 arce yards.
It took awhile, but I finally realized the deer run the woods, but probably spend more time in the yards then any where else.I crested a small hill and was staring at a small herd of about a dozen doe with 4 buck running with them. Two I'd love to find the sheds from 2 of these deer.
Here's another one of the last one.
