DFG Announces Pheasant Hunting Clinic for Women

Contact: Karen R. Fothergill, DFG Wildlife Programs Branch, (916) 445-3703

Women who want to get started hunting pheasants can attend a workshop on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19 at Hastings Island Hunting Preserve near Rio Vista.

The workshop is co sponsored by the California Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) Game Bird Heritage Program, the California Waterfowl Association River City Ladies Committee, Hastings Island Hunting Preserve, and Pheasants Forever.

The program will be presented from a woman's perspective and in a female friendly atmosphere with emphasis on such essential information as hunting gear, networking for future hunting opportunities, and hunting regulations and laws. The first day of instruction includes pheasant hunting methods and techniques, a dog handling demonstration, lunch and trap shooting. A pheasant hunt will be held the next day with shotguns available for loan.

Experienced hunters and dog handlers with trained hunting dogs will volunteer their time to assist women on their first hunting experience. A current California hunting license and an Upland Game Bird Stamp are required to participate in the pheasant hunt.

The fee for the pheasant hunting clinic is $40. Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required.

For registration information regarding either the hunter education class or the pheasant-hunting workshop, call (916) 445-3452.
