There is at least one book out there. It is by the outdoor writer/hunter with the last name Bodington.

It is a very nice book, but it is not free.

I have one I saved from a magazine, but it is not online. It was an article on elk shot placement. I will try to find it, but it won't be online.

I looked for this kind of information in 2004 and was not easy to find.

Just hit it just behind the front shoulder and behind the joint and just above the joint in the front leg. There are items about shots that aren't good profile shots, these shots are to be avoided.

A very wise man once told me "shoot for the biggest part" (that's the same guy who told me "a smart hunter hunts uphill"). So while that's kinda vague, it's also pretty true (that is, for those who know better than to shoot a critter in the hind quarters).

More precisely, though, just to the rear of the front shoulder and just above the joint of that front shoulder for a good double-lung shot.
