My brother and I went to unit 43 this year in CO on the advice from the Huntin Fool Mag. It was the first time we tried hunting in CO. We ran into a Game Warden that said 90% of the people he has made contact with, are new hunters that came to CO because of the Magazine. Did anyone go?

We went on the 3rd season for Elk/Deer. Weather was not good. 30 deg in the morning and 65 in the afternoon. We saw no deer (bucks) on public land. Saw some Monsters in some front yards. Did get to see some cows and took one home. If the weather is good unit 43 should be great.

There were a lot of dissappointed HuntinFool subscribers this year in Colorado.

That magazine and Outdoor Life ruined the area I hunt. Luckily I doubt most of the folks will come back.

They hurt draw odds on selected units, and drive up landowner tag prices. I know it is tougher to draw tags because of them. Seems like a lot of it is based upon last year's harvest, but like you said, weather plays a big role. I wish there were no application services, but oh well, we have to deal with it now. At least Garth & Co. can buy good hunts with the $$$$$ they make, so somebody benifits. Perhaps you can use their picks to decide what else you may have a shot at drawing.

We ran into a couple of hunters that paid 3 to 4 times the amount the reg tag cost. Those people very upset. My brother paid the $550 for a over-counter bull tag before we set up camp. That was a mistake. I was upset that I did not buy a bear tag. The second day had a nice cinnamon at 135 yards broadside for 20 min. Also if anyone is interested in Bighorns, saw 2 nice ones. But that’s hunting. You’ll see everything you don’t have a tag for.

The Huntin Fool is just one of several sources i use to plan hunts and aquire points.
My experience is that their info is pretty good.

There is alot that goes into a successfull trip. planning, scouting, etc etc.

As a rule the best units are the hardest to draw.

My brother and I hiked about 3 miles behind a couple mountains, were he saw some cows the previous day. When we got there, the cows were gone. On the way back we saw two. I ranged this one at 279 yards. Shot her once and hit her good. I was going to shoot at her again but she was running towards the road/truck. She ran about 40yards and was down less than mile away from the truck. I took all day but it would have taken two days if I would have shot her behind the mountains.

Were going to put in for the area every year. The place we hunted is only by foot and horseback. That’s the way we like it.
