G'day.I have 5 doe tags to fill and 6.5 months untill the official end to my shed season.This means I will be pounding the ground looking for deer and maybe find a few sheds.I went up for a couple of days through the week.

DAY1 #1
First thing 10 minutes into the walk and a Km from the homestead I find this.A kangaroo scull.

#2
This was a rat scull or something I cannot identify it.Found a mile away from other scull.

Then I saw this little guy.

Then I thought while my legs were on fire I'd do a few more miles and get to a spot I have never shed hunted.This isn't the best area due to poaching pressure.The deer just don't hang here anymore.
I got near the top of a little hill and found this.

The view from the top of the little hill.The furthest peice of paddock is the haul paddock.About 7 miles away.I had walked 9 miles to get here.

After walking so far, to be honest I was totaly stuffed.Not because i'm unfit but because I was wearing heavy hot trousers,boots and woolen jacket (it was cold in the morning).By the afternoon it was unseasonably hot.As I looked over the beautifull view above I looked at the end of the log and found BEER.NOW WHAT A FIND THIS WAS.I'm not a drinkers backside,but to find a cold one frozen to the shade side of a log I just couldn't help myself.I tiped one out in my hands to see if it was stale.It was fine so I merrily drank the other.Poachers can't even wait for deer without being half pissed.The manager of the property nearly caught the bloke at the fence.I bet these were his beers and that was his deer.And when the manager chased him he could not recover either.

After drinking a well deserved and freezing cold ale I walked back down the bank and found this old nice little one.

I got a mile off the top of the hill and saw this 100 yards away.My air punch was that of a heavy weight boxer.

Closeup.
Now why this was left here for so long has me beat.I'll take it.
[attachment=51888:ttttt.jpg]

Why it was left is that all the hunters have got lazy and wont get out of their cars.Even to shoot deer? Idiots.

The days roundup.With my swedish 6.5x55.With a sporterised millitary stock.It has high rise scope mounts (home made) that allows me to see through the open sights incase of scope fog...... I wish I had it when I tried to get a shot a red cabbage.The roll is a jacket and jumper I could have done without during the day.

Closeup of the base of the scull. "YEEEHAAAAA" I shouted,lumps and bumpy bits.Fallow just don't get the bobbles happening.

Next morning I was up early to see what was happening.I chose a different line to enter the hill.After a brief walk I found this.
[attachment=51891:picture_735.jpg]

This was how foggy it was when getting to a waiting position.To foggy to shoot 20 yards infront of me.
[attachment=51892:tttt.jpg]

Nothing came my way after a while and the paddoks where clear so I head off back to the homestead.I took a detour to find the other half of the largest scoring freshy.I grid worked in a different direction to the one in season and found this.

Then this.Griding in the oposite direction has it's merrits.From an area near the house I wouldn't have give a second thought.
[attachment=51894:picture_738.jpg]

Last but not least by any means.Red cabbage made it through the season.As well as the sailboat.I saw cabbage in the hill and sailboat 40 yards off me in the fog........cool

Sailboats poo on the right.Red cabbage on the left.Redcabbage next season will be 7.5 years old.Sailboat contrary to what people try and tell me is 9.They live for a long time on this place.The previous manager who is a verry verry good friend of mine and is now 76 years old swears that he has seen them live to 15.His father run the property and he had wild pets that lived till 12.

As I was viewing these forums, I get a knock at the door.It's an old friend of my fathers who had heard I like collecting horns.He had a mount in his shed for 30 years and it was getting damaged moving around the place.He didn't want it anymore so he gave it to me.

It was Mounted around 1940/1950.It was mounted by a then famous taxidermist named Mrs Reid.At the time she was the only taxidermist in the state.She used to brag about sending away to england to get propper glass deer eyes for mounting as most people only had tiger eyes or something(As the story goes).She was also the last person to feed a Tasmanian Tiger in captivity.They are now extinct.

Suss the little hook like trez tine.Cool.Full velvet freebies are great.
