Howdy everyone. After a 9 month hiatus to the 'Stan I'm back, and just in time to submit and draw for late season elk. Has anyone else who drew, started any plans for scouting yet? Aka pig hunting....

Haha! I drew last year and had to give up the tag so that set me up good. I was just up there last week and didn't see too much action in the usual areas of 22 and 16. But who knows what winter will bring.

Congrats and welcome back home.

You should have a great hunt. If you don't already have a muzzleloader, buy or borrow one now and learn how to shoot it well. Depending on the training going on during your hunt, there is a good chance that some or most of the prime elk areas may be muzzleloader/archery only during the hunt or portions of it. That has happened the last couple of years on several of the hunt periods and those who came prepared had a huge advantage and the ability to hunt several zones almost by themselves while the rest of the centerfire hunters were stuck hunting the remaining one or two zones open for rifle.

I'm hunting the 444 cow hunt in early Nov and G8 doe hunt in early Oct. I'll post up what I see during those hunts.

I drew that tag last year. Pray for no rain!!! It rained on me almost the entire time, but I think it added a little something to my hunt. Like mentioned before, get a muzzle loader and learn to shoot it. There are elk all over that place, you will have an awesome hunt. I missed a nice bull on the second day, ended up with a heavy 5x5. PM me and i'll give you some information that I learned from last year and info I have.

Sounds like somebody just entered the market for a muzzleloader?

What?.....There was no mention of a missed last year. Were you trying to hide from a Chilli-Wrap Dance? :smacking-head-malle

Sorry to hijack your thread Mike_Cook. Send me PM a couple week before your hunt and I'll see what kind of elk steak is cooking for ya.

Luckily for Mikey, he has a brother-in-law who is strapped to the teeth and just so happens to have a brand new ML. Now you just got to throw some lead down range. +270 is our goal this year Michael

I my G33 archery hunts late last year at FHL I saw plenty elk in 13B as stated earlier with some nice bulls. Often you can see them in 13B from mission road. 35.977242,-121.2087
Wondering what areas will be open for your hunt? I guess it's up to F&G. You'd think they'd let you in 13B because they get pretty crowded up in there. Other areas, 9 & 19.
I've never drawn a tag yet. Hopefully next year. My preference points getting up there. Good hunting & post a pic of your elk love to see it.

I know this an old post but is this draw through the state or through the base?

My brother and I also drew the 447 bull tag and are pumped up for the hunt. We are both bringing muzzleloaders also but would appreciate any information.
Thanks
