Anyone have any stats for the spring hog hunt at EPR? # of tags?# hogs taken? or did anyone get drawn and go? Success? Anyone else put in for the fall draw there?

My 13yr old and I put in for the fall and was just curious what to expect if drawn. Never hunted hogs before but my new hunting partner is excited and gonna get me in the field more.
thanks for any info

I haven't drawn the pig yet but I hunted it for elk in '06 before they began the pig hunts.
There were pigs-a-plenty
I understand that the marsh is off-limits now, that's where the pigs head to when they move. I guess you have to be a certain distance away from the marsh.

How did you sign up for the hunt? I have searched the internet and have not been able to find an application to hunt this area. Maybe I am just a little tech-challenged. Any help would be much appreciated. With my luck it is too late for this year but there is always next year.

The information you seek is in the Summer 2008 California Hunting Digest on page 41 from the California Department of Fish and Game. Mine came in the mail last week.

I'm sure you can get one by calling DFG or looking at your local Wally Mart.

It's a muzzle loader only hunt. Applications are due by close of business August 27th, so don't delay.

Given the short time frame, here's what you need to do to apply.

Send a U.S. Postal Service postcard (available at the post office) with the following info:

1. Hunter Name (Jrs. must provide name of adult chaperone) Individual hunters may be accompanied by one non-hunter

2. Valid Hunting License Number

3. Address, City, State, Zip

4. Telephone number

5. Hunt Period and Date desired:

Period 5 - Oct. 1 & 2, 2008
Period 6 - Oct. 6 & 7, 2008
Period 7 - Oct. 8 & 9, 2008
Period 8 - Oct. 13 & 14, 2008
Period 9 - Oct. 15 & 16, 2008
Period 10 - Oct. 20 & 21, 2008
Period 11 - Oct. 22 & 23, 2008
Period 12 - Oct. 27 & 28, 2008
Period 13 - Oct. 29 & 30, 2008

Limit - one ap and date period, no dogs

Mail ap card to:

East Park Reservoir Pig Hunt
DFG
1812 9th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814

Good luck.

Anyone know why the dates are only during the week?[/b]
It's because the hunt area is on a popular lake shore. On weekends there are lots of boaters and campers but monday-thursday is quiet, hardly a soul there.

The success rate in the spring was around 0! no pigs were killed. There are pigs there but they come and go just a matter of lucky timing.
