Loye,

Goodluck on your upcoming pig hunt. Eldon might use dogs on his hunts. FYI. I say this because many guys who have hunted with dogs once, generally don't do it again. Typically not what a hunter expects for a pig hunt. Might want to ask ahead of time though.

I know Eldon's been in buisness for a long time and has some good property. You should see plenty of pigs.

A buddy and I did a Spring turkey/pig combo hunt with Eldon a few years ago. He teamed us with experienced guides on private property. I got a nice gobbler on land west of Paso Robles the morning of the first day, then the weather turned bad. The next day we hunted pig on private property to the east, near the Santa Margarita river. No dogs. In spite of high winds, the guide did a great job and my buddy got a trophy boar. This was a no frills hunt, and we used my truck both days as part of the deal. We had a great time and I would hunt with his outfit again. WB

Loye,

I noticed that someone called from Cambria and didn't leave a message.

My boss Kyler has been in this buisness for something like 13 years and if you go to www.boaring.com you can read all you want about the hunts we offer and the costs. We may be on the higher side though, I think. As far as other guides go I have heard a lot of good stuff about Mustang. Easterbrook is in the Parkfield area where we guide. The only think I've heard about them is that they have a very small amount of property to guide on (less than 1,000 acres I believe, might want to ask though).

We currently have approximatley 13,000 - 15,000 acres of property from King City to Santa Margarita. We do most of our guiding though in the Parkfield area. This can be a tough time though because a lot of the ranch roads are not drivable right now because of the rains. The good side though is that the barley the ranches planted is growing like mad, which will be good this spring and summer.

Goodluck on deciding. If I were you though I would find a guide and book a hunt now for later this spring, April-June. During the winter with the rains it is likely that your hunt could be cold and muddy, thus limiting your access to where your hunting. I'm only speaking from my experience with the ranches we hunt.

I was told by a previous customer that Bergman no longer uses dogs.

Contact Freedivr2 via PM. He had an experience with Eldon Bergman that was less than positive.

I've never hunted with Eldon, but had kind of an awkward phone conversation with him. I was trying to get some info and he just didn't seem to be very enthusiastic about booking a hunt. I don't know if it was his age or what but I left not feeling very confident about his services. Merely my experience OK? Just shop carefully.

dwayne, i am going to email you a question about AZ coues archery hunting.

If it is the same guy, and i am pretty sure it is, eldon showed up on some private property that me and my brother were hunting (we had aquired permission) and walked out yelling here pig pig pig. he was wearing a side arm and i did not get a real good impression of him.

I would spend a little more and go with a class operation like boaringexperiences.

you wont regret it.

I've hunted with Eldon and his guides four times in the last 14 years. I have never come home skunked. Three pigs and one turkey. Years ago he hunted with dogs, but now it is mostly spot and stalk. I have nothing but good things to say about Eldon. He will work all day, relentlessly to get you on game. He really knows the land up there. Each time he has had different guides helping him, but they have all been good guys who knew their stuff. Two years ago, one of Eldon's guides (and when I say guides, I mean the guys he has help him) called in a nice gobbler with an 8" beard. Eldon is one of those guys who's seen a lot and done a lot. A lot of good tales he likes to spin. Though I have never had a bad phone call with him when setting up a hunt, I believe Eldon is a hunter in every sense of the word, and not a marketing guru. I have always gone with at least one buddy and we have always used two vehicles, one of them being either my buddies or my own. I highly recommend him and would be happy to talk with anyone who might be swaying one way or the other.

Send me an email.

Mike
