I am looking to get a bugle and a few other misc. elk calls this year to practice up for next fall, or the fall after.

What does everyone use, and why. I am already planning on the hoochee Mama, but what else.

I want a good easy bugle, for the record I can not use a diaphram for anything to save my life.

Thanks guys

Abe and Son's call (recently bought out by Lohmans) -- http://www.kolpin.com/product/loab.asp This bugle works like a charm. But, I don't see that Lohman has the instructional videos which you'd need to make it work....you might want to call and ask.

Or Primos has a similar call.

I know there are other bugles that don't require the use of a diaphram but I don't know if they're any good or not.

abe & sons is a good call but getting a new latex piece stretched properly is a real big pain in the keister. for simplicity you cant beat the Primos bugles. break a reed on that and you can easily throw a new one on and still sound the same as before it broke. plus the reeds last much longer than the latex bands since they are made of silicone. they wont rot in the hot sun etc etc.

another call you should get is a hyper lip single with the tone converter. this call will allow you to make high pitched estrus and distress sounds. you should actually have 2 of these on you when you go just incase something happens to the other.

you should really try and practice with a diaphragm call though since you have so much time. the palate plates are very very easy to use. these are the only kind i can use since i have such a high palate. at least learn how to cow call with them. having a diaphragm in when a bull comes in will help you stop him while at full draw. just something for you to think about.

oh and if you havent bought them already go and get Elknuts video series on elk calling. they are full of info and will help you out immensely.

I am planning on ordering the elk nuts videos, riddle me this,

do you use a diaphram when you bugle with the primos line of bugles? That is something I feel I should know, but don't.

I don't want to go with ten calls, if I had only two or three, including the diaphram, what would they be?
