My kids are finally old enough to go elk hunting with me and I'd love to take them but here's the problem. From where we live, its just too far to do any kind of weekend hunt and taking them out of school for more than one day is too much. I took my oldest boy out of school for 4 days this year and took him to Colorado with me. He shot a cow elk and we had a fantastic time but despite my best efforts, it screwed up his schoolwork. Took him a month to get caught up and his grades slipped some. Wife says if i ever do it again, she'll castrate me.
So here's my question- anyone know of a bull or cow elk hunt that meets the following criteria:
1. Western U.S.-preferably Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Or New Mexico
2. available licenses or tags- no drawing with lottery odds
3. reasonable price- can't spend five grand for some private land deal
4. hunt takes place over either Thanksgiving week or Xmas/New Years holiday period
If anyone knows of any hunt like this I would really appreciate the info. Thanks
