Zia Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America, is holding an Elk hunt raffle - for disabled & non-disabled!  If you're interested, here's the link:

http://hometown.aol.com/ziaexec/ELKRAFFLE.html

The Paralyzed Veterans of America, New Mexico Chapter (Zia)is offering a chance to win a guided Elk hunt. Group A is for able bodied people and Group B is for mobility impaired folks.

Grand prizes winners in both groups (1 in each group)will receive a land owner permit and guide service to hunt the quality bull elks in NM. In addition winners will get lodging for the duration of the hunt, round trip air fare (within the continental United States), meat processing, 50% off a standard trophy mount and shipping of the meat and the mount to the winner's home.

Second prize are for cow Elk hunts, one in each group Winners get a land owner permit, guide service and lodging.

Tickets are limited to 1000 for Group A and 500 for Group B. Tickets sell for $25.00 each and the money goes toward the Zia PVA.

For tickets or more info go to http://www.ziapva.org
or call 800-597-5580 or 505-247-4381

If you apply for the disabled hunt, you'll need an MI (mobility impaired) card, available from the New Mexico Game & Fish Dept.  Deadline for applying for the MI card is March 15th - better hurry.  It would be terrible if you won the raffle, but didn't get an MI card - which would make you ineligible!

It may be easier to obtain the form from Zia PVA - contact number is above.

Sorry about the short notice...

Good Luck!

Geez...where's my manners?!  I posted a message (New To Elk Hunting) and mentioned an Elk hunt raffle for the disabled.  I forgot to mention - there's a raffle for non-disabled hunters, too!

If you're interested, go the the Disabled Hunters forum and view the thread "Elk Hunt Raffle".

Sorry - I don't have time to re-type it again

Good Luck!

UPDATE!

At this time, they haven't sold the minimum number of tickets (600) needed to meet the current deadline dates.  Rather than cancel the raffle altogether, they extended the purchase & drawing dates to:

Purchase deadline : 08/13/02 (at the close of of business)
Drawing date:          08/15/02

There's still plenty of time, if you need any time to think about it!

Good Luck

BTW - If you've already purchased tickets, and wish to receive a refund, refunds are being offered through 05/15/02.

Will this give us enough time to get everythin ready for the hunt.  Meaning, NM license and such.

Bubba - Since I've already applied for mine, I didn't even think of that!  Geez...

Sorry to say, but the deadline for applying for a Mobility Impaired permit from the New Mexico Dept. of Game & Fish was March 15th...  You are required to have a valid MI permit for the Group B hunt.  If you are drawn for the Group B hunt, and don't have the required permit, you're disqualified.  If you don't already have a MI permit (lifetime permit), it's too late to apply for it -  for this years MI hunt, anyway.

The raffle is divided into 2 groups.  Group A is open to anyone, and Group B is for disabled hunters only.  It's not too late if you want to apply for the Group A hunt.  Be sure and read the details for the Group A hunt, if you decide to go that route....  I don't think any assistance is offered.  The link is in my first post.

Sorry about the confusion...

Chairman,

Do you happen to know if you can bring along a buddy on the hunt, realizing that it's just one elk, or is it a solitary affair?

Kickaha - I'm not sure.  Your best bet is to call ZIA PVA at the number posted at the beginning of the thread, and ask them.
