O.K. For the SERIOUS ONLY; Ol' Griz is going Elk Hunting 100000% during the 2nd. Rifle Season in Colorado. Over the counter tags for non-residence is $554 Bull and $354 for Cow Only. Dates are Oct. 22-30th. Yes, 9 great days camping at around 9000' elevation. Not quite sure which days I will be there as I can only be off Saturday to following Sunday! Anyway, I have room for 3 more in my 12x14 Wall Tent. (You will have to have a Hunter Safety Card no matter what age, if I'm not mistaken)

All I ask is for the serious to pay $50 for use of tent, extra food I provide, coffee, ear plugs(snoring noises) & camp expertise: Wall tent, wood stove, water, outside makeshift outhouse, cooking supplies! (Will not have to pay until day we are leaving!)

You will need cot, sleeping bag, warm clothes and few survival supplies. (In case of severe overnight storm)

No cry babies about cigar smoke around campfire, no Bragging about what you do for a living or how much $$$$ you make. Very limited cell phone usage up there, due to no signal in some areas.

Why am I announcing this so early?
It takes a lot of time to build up the hype of your first Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt. Yes, I've been going for years with success. Success is the thrill of the Hunt and Campfire stories. I enjoy seeing people who have never heard an Elk bugle. It will be the memory of a lifetime.

Mapquest directions to New Castle, Colorado. We will get off at exit 105 and take Buford/New Castle road up to Meadow Lake or Triangle Park--(Unit #33) Depending on amount of snow. Will be hunting the Flat Tops White River National Forest area. Units 23 & 33 are basically right across the road from each other in areas. Ranges 8500-10,500 ft. elevation. Some knicknames where will will hunt--GRAVEL PIT, CATTLE CROSSING, CORRAL, CLARKS RIDGE, CLIFFS, MEADOW LAKE, SPRING CAMP, DEEP CREEK, ELK CREEK

You can buy mule deer buck tags for unit 23 OVER THE COUNTER. I've never been turned down for those, always plenty left over.

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

((((I will have room for one in my 4 wheel drive with us splitting the gas$$$. Also, hunt exact dates as we get closer. Of course, you can always stay in your own tents and camp near us)))))))))))

Past hunts;
2002-Lenny harvested a 5x4 on Wednesday of 2nd. rifle season. Snow storm came in that day, we went out anyway and WHAM, Lenny lucked out. His first elk hunting trip.
003-Will harvested a cow elk (100 yards from camp) on Tuesday. Then harvested a 4x3 mule deer back on the high road at water hole on next to last day. (Triangle Park east side)
2004-Did not leave tent for 38 hours due to down draft snow storm. WOW, learned a lot from this one. Then the next 2 days it was so foggy you couldn't see 75 yards. No success that year.
2005-Rufus harvest a small bull
2006-Las Vegas got his first at the cliffs
2007-Passed on the biggest mule deer of my life. 358 yards but was uncomfortable with that shot. Still think I did the best by passing on him. Practiced since then, my 7mm is ready.
2010-Lots of snow, Rufus saw 3 nice bulls cross road. Nephew trailed but no success.

If you've never been and always wanted to go but, did not know what to do, this is your CHANCE. Guess I'll be like a Hunting Mentor. Will show you where to hunt, I have all the maps that we will need and we can do a lot of scouting on 4x4 to get you the lay of the land. Then it's all up to you.

Just a few highlights that jiggle my memory bank and hope to get the excitement going.
