Elk in the Sierra Valley

Recently there have been a few sightings of elk around Plumas and Sierra Counties. Anybody think a heard could ever be established out here.
I didnt believe it when I heard the rumors but found these links

From time to time elk sightings are reported to me in Plumas County, Loyalton area, plus others down the Sierra range. Elk are capable of traveling long distances. Sightings have been both bulls and cows. Could they become established? Maybe, just depends on if they find all the resources they need and hang out (obviously need both bulls and cows and all reports so far have been of one or the other). Plus it would help if they were not shot at either (currently no reports of that).
