I would get both tags. You wouldn't want to pass up a big 5x5 because you didn't have the tag.

If you only get the Elk tag, you will for sure see a huge 5x5 at 60 yards broadside that will tease you for 10 minutes. How often do you get a chance to hunt Colorado? Get the deer tag...

Good luck! Backcountry

I AM TOO CHEAP TO BUY BOTH WHEN I GO NEXT FALL, BUT I AM ALSO GOING ARCHERY. I MIGHT HAVE TO RECONSIDER IF I WERE ON A RIFLE HUNT, BUT AS AN OUT-OF-STATER, THAT'S A STEEP PRICE TO PAY. THEN AGAIN, I MAY BE SORRY, BUT THE DRAW TO THE HUNT FOR ME IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE AN ELK, NOT A MULIE.

Hey Guys,
My brother in law outfits for area 42. My hubby and the family hunt 42 but this year we tried 22. Those of you hunting areas 41 and 42 can call my brother in law Brett Jolley 970-984-3562-he has bear, elk, deer. Or my friend Mike Lindner's cell 970-930-0025 for elk and deer. We have pulled several 5x5 bulls and 4x4 bucks. And some nontypical's. You could go for a deer draw tag and get an over the counter bull tag. Archery is harder with elk than deer but they are both good areas. Give them a call and ask them.

Oh, Jake is leaving us so he'll have to come see his sis during hunting season.

CDA , I wont be here next year, buuuttt I killed a bull yesterday and I dont think we will have a prob getting ricky to go after he saw the pics.I will get them posted as soon as I can. maybe even jeff fabry will come. I could have put anyone of you guys on bulls, even jeff. I told Ricky to come but he had to work.

On the 23rd I had a nice 6 point and a 5 point standing 200 yards from my pickup but I was hunting deer no tag.

And then yesterday I killed a decent 5 point, then when my dad was taking the truck to come get me another nice 5 point was standing 60 yards from the road.

All of these elk were within 600 yds of eachother. I got my buck too.

Think I found a honey hole?

I have seen more bulls this year than you could stake a stick at. I am litterally a$$hole deep in elk. I have seen some BIG bulls 350+. I sat and watched them fight twice on two different days but i couldnt work the camera right so the pics are really blury and that sucks a big fat one. They will be a tough hunt steep nasty and mileS from the road and if you have ever packed an elk before you know what that means.
I am moving back to Hanford around the 20th, so I will call ricky and we can discuss this, in more detail.helluvan Idea if you ask me.

And RT as you can see I will be back after this year I probably wont miss a season.

I'm actually just going on my first Elk trip next year to Idaho and my father is my guide. He told me to get a deer tag as well since that seems to be par for the course, to encounter a nice buck and not have a tag. You're just asking for heart-ache if you don't get a tag I was advised.
