Earlier this year I was fortunate to draw a bull tag in AZ. My partner lives in Phoenix and knows the area. We've set out trail cams and he's been checking them since April, with fair-to-good results. Chuck went up over the long weekend to check the cameras and he reports the bulls are starting to whistle.

I asked about the cameras and he sent me this "Teaser"! I can't wait for the rest of them....:smiley-mouse:

That is a cool picture. you can see the shadow from the near antler on the tree. It almost looks like he's getting ready to rub it.
Nice bull for sure, good luck on your hunt!

AZ Elk

The pics sure do get the juices flowing! My son and I have tags for 27 in Nov. thats the area of the Wallow fire, so I'm trying to get some updated info on what the area looks like,,,, will be hunting in the Blue with our mules for transport hopefully off the roads to get in some good country. Any info on the area would be appreciated.

Teazer for sure Danny. Can you have the elk stand and look at us from behind, then an over-the-shoulder shot? Then maybe on his back smoking a cigarette in king of a lounge position oh and maybe.....ok I'm done thanks for that.

Can you hold me?

As for area 27, contact to AZ fish and game and get the area biologist's e-mail and ask him about the fire and the animals. They really helpful guys and willing to share.

In my own area they were doing some controlled burns and we were concerned..ended up talking to one of the USFWS fire chiefs and he claims the animals are back in the area within a day or two. Doesn't faze 'em at all.

K-rad, those elk are in pre-rut bachelor herds right now. It's a long way to Novemeber yet.... We've currently got 8 cameras out, so the odds say that sooner or later we'll get a REALLY good shot like the teaser. We haven't seen any lounge lizard elk yet but I'll let you know.

That is sweet. I can only imagine a big bull elk. Someday when my boys are old enough we will go get one. Hopefully in a few years when my youngest can handle the cold and being away that long.

Here in a few weeks, should have a few more. Right now they are in bachelor herds and should start breaking up soon, if not already. One shot from the last camera check showed an elk locked up with a competitor. You could see the tips of the other elks horns, but no body.

It's starting to get exciting.
