Congrats Chris and Scott, that is a kick a$$ boar. I can't believe all of the good looking hogs they have there. Sounds like I need to put in some overtime and get up there.

Yeah, and that actually wasn't a very good picture of her. She hunts pretty good too.

I guess DILPRXO is too busy trying to get the mud and blood out of his Rockport hunting boots, so I'll start by telling some of the kill story since I got a little excitmement out of it too. He can fill in the details on Sunday night's hunt and add to this story

Tuesday morning Deedy and Karin picked us up at 0'dark thirty and we headed for one of her barley fields. Karin dropped up off and headed for higher ground to help glass. After taking a quick look over the ridge and not spotting anything, we turned to look at the field we had just come in through and I caught movement behind a lone tree. I whispered to Deedy "you don't have any cows in this field do you"?. She replied "no" and gave me an odd look. I said then that's a damn big hog as he stepped out from behind the tree. We made a bee line to cut him off and he stepped onto the road about 70 yards in front of us. DILPRXO dropped to his knee, fired and put the hog on his @$$. Much to our surprise the hog shook it off and bailed at a dead run. A couple of Hail Marys from us missed.

Here's where it got exciting for me......as the hog crested the ridge I decided there was no way Chris was going to lose that hog so I took off after him like Rosie O'Donnell after an ice cream truck. I could hear Karin and Deedy going back and forth on the radio but had no idea what they were saying. I slowed up a bit and Deedy yelled "he's still going" and it was off to the races again. After a 500 yard foot race, I caught him and as I closed the gap to 30 yards and he turned and dropped his head, ready to charge. This is where reality hits me.... I've got a big, wounded, pissed off boar in front of me and I'm holding a .243... I felt a bit undergunned and settled the crosshairs on his forehead. At the last millisecond, screwing up a beautiful mount entered my mind and I aimed at his shoulder. As I squeezed the trigger he stepped forward and the bullet hit home. He immediately staggered and fought to stay on his feet. As I was about to put another round in him, he stiffened up and fell over dead.

I got on the radio and yelled dead hog as DILPRXO and Deedy were coming over the ridge right behind me. Karin came off her perch above us with the truck and after all the hugs and high fives we settled down for photos. I found out all the hollering on the radio was Karin watching the whole thing go down and giving a play by play of the idiot chasing the hog and catching it.

I'm sure I left something out, Chris get cracking and fill in the first night details and anything I missed.

I'm a bit short on time today but I'll be adding pictures over the next couple days.

Also a HUGE thanks to Deedy and Karin. I can't say enough good things about these two ladies. They run a first class operation, have awesome properties, lots of hogs and they know how to hunt them. I would HIGHLY recommend their outfit to anyone!!!!!!!!!! Chick guides ROCK!

Wow! That there is some crazy action packed recollection of a crazy action packed hunting episode. That's a giant hog! Let's see a pic of the teeth.

Congrats to all four player, especially to the guides who seem to really get it done for their clients. Awesome. I better get up there before they shoot the place out.

Looking back, there was one thing wrong with this whole deal. We didn't come home sore, exhausted, bloody and reeking of a weekend in the woods. I feel cheated.

Thanks again guys

lol Franklin. I'm new to the cartridge and that's where my uneasiness came from. So far I've only taken antelope with it. Normally I use a .30/06 for hogs, but wasn't planning on hunting hogs while I was up there, only varmints. I was more than happy with the performance. In above the shoulder, through both lungs and the liver, hit a rib on the off-side and traveled another 6-8 inches along the hide before half of the slug exited. I recovered part of the jacket and slug from the exit.

Hey Scott what grain bullet were you using with the 243. I brought my 243 on the Ham Slam with some 85 grn barne's tsx but didn't use it stuck with the 30/06 instead. I have a Rem 788 and that thing is accurate as heck I love shooting it. Sounds like you both had a great trip did you get to shoot any squeaks also..
