Hello all,

JJHack has posted a great write-up in the Africa Hunting forum about field shooting vs. benchrest shooting in practical situations. I think it's great info for any big game hunter, and well-worth the read.

Check it out here.

Speckmisser>> I agree with what JJ had to say. Most shots are under 200 yds. And often game is on-the-run away from you at less than 100 yds. It pays to practice offhand 'til you can hit a pieplate offhand at 100 yds.

One thing he didn't mention is that the best way to aquire a target with is to keep both eyes open, raise the rifle to your shoulder from below and 'eyeball' and aquire your target from just above the scope using an imaginary line running down the top of your scope before fully shouldering the rifle and looking thru the scope (again with both eyes open).

As my dad taught me, the best practice for deer season is to go jack rabbit hunting with your deer rifle before season.
