These guys showed up on our lease out of nowhere. I suppose they escaped from one of the high fence places near us. They were WAY off - 300 plus yards and I havent invested in anything beyond the 70-200 with a teleconverter so the crop does lots of damage. Any advice on how to improve distance shots with short glass?

Trent, that first shot looks like the tree in the background is in focus but not the animals. Did you use a single focus point or all points?

I had it on a single focus point in the middle Zach. Should I have had it on all points?

No, I would have used the single point also. Don't know why it backfocused.

do you know what species those are? I think the white one is a fallow buck..

There are a lot of places out by fredricksburg (other places too) where axis are just free ranging across many low fence places. So many of them have escaped over time that they are just free ranging now.

Lan-lord, I'm told the one on the right is a fallow and the other is a sika. The doe apparently is a fallow too. What is strange is how white they are. Most pics of fallows I have seen have them much darker like an axis. We dont have any exotic ranches near us, but we've been feeding protein very heavily through this drought and we have attracted lots and lots of animals - apparently these guys like us!

Cool! Those are both fallow. One is chocolate and the other is white.
