I think archery is a good way to go. Most of the deer already spooked by time rifle season

Im spending all my vacation allowance from the misses on a nebraska whitetail hunt in October, so any legal az deer should be ready to duck arrows come august. If theres velvet on its head, its dead.

Now in October, my goal will be just to shoot more than one deer during the week. Im hoping for 3, my buddy has some good spots, but I'd honestly be happy just bringing home two big ole nanny does. Anything with antlers will be a bonus.

I was just coming in to my camp for a 7 day hunt, trailer hooked up and $200 in groceries etc etc. Just as I turned in to my spot, still on paved road, a nice forky was bouncing next to me on a ridge. I stopped, got out and had a stare down at about 40 yds with this forky, rifle in hand. I decided to pass just because I was just getting there and figured , "wow, Im already seeing legal bucks, Im starting off good!!" Wrong, didnt see another buck the whole time I was there. Ill never pass on a legal buck again in this state. I dont get to hunt as much as I would like to, I have little ones that take all my time for the next few years. Im not a trophy hunter and dont see myself as one in the future. If its legal, Im taking it!!

Just meat for me, not Into hanging dead heads on my walls, If they are legal they are harvested. the best venison meat I have had has been the younger forky's.
Gary don't stress it to much, for several years I was the best dam flusher you ever saw, was going to show them how it was done so there was down in the brush walking and stacking as good as any, and all day long I'd hear the report of a rifle just 5 minutes behind me.
I was every body's pal back at camp, beer chit chat, keep up the great work there kid. Yep best dam flusher there was,

I'm in this to put food on the table. If I could shoot a doe in CA, I would. Plus, this is my first year hunting in CA. If I can hand a ring on a second tine, I'm gonna take it. Would I like to get a big buck worth putting on the wall? Sure, I'd love that, but I wouldn't pass up meat on my kid's plates for it.

Where at in Nebraska? I've been back there the last 5 years. Last year we ended up with 13 deer between 5 of us.

My buddies address is in "western, Nebraska". Not sure if thats a town called western or unincorporated area out in the county. All i know is he usually shoots some pretty nice whiteys, so I'm going to trust his judgment, take his advice, and buy his beer for him! :D

I go for the biggest body/most meat. Like others said, can't eat horns. I've killed many, many fat whitetail does in GA. I actually just got my first muley on Camp Pendleton this past Saturday, a little forky buck. The 10pt in the profile pic is one of only 2 I've killed that were bigger than a 6pt (I guess those would be 2x2 here since yall don't count brow tines?). My expectations here are this: Early season, maybe wait for a bigger one, late season, if it's brown it's down. With hunter success rates around 10% in SoCal, beggers cant be choosers. I'm just glad I get to hunt G-10 Camp Pendleton.
