Well what father could ask for more than a weekend hunting with his son. My son turned 12 back in March and I bought him a new Savage Axis .270 for his bday gift. We went hunting that week and another weekend a few weeks after his bday. Unfortunately he never had a shot opportunity on the two previous trips so I figured Father's Day weekend would be a great time to get away.

We got to my friends property, the same place as the previous hunts, on Saturday afternoon. I've been hunting this property for 10+ years and have killed a ton of hogs. Saturday evening I set the boy up at a water source, but darkness came and nothing showed up except for turkey's and a couple of coyotes.

Sunday morning comes way to early and we check out a few other "go to" spots on the ranch, but nothing. Now I'm frustrated! We catch a little nap and then eat. About 12:30 pm I tell my son let's go drive around since there is nothing else to do and the truck has A/C. It's pretty darn hot out in Paso Robles in the summer. Well holy s*#%! About a dozen hogs are feeding around some oaks not more than 25 yards off a dirt road. I stop the truck and we get out. The hogs are about 120 yards from the truck at this point. We get a little closer, maybe 15-20 yards. My son gets his rifle on his sticks and I tell him which one to shoot. BOOM! I see the hog get hit, but can't tell how well. I watch it through my binos run prob 60 yards and down a little hill and disappears. Now my heart was sinking. I didn't want my son not to find his hog. Well as soon as I walked over to the top of the hill that the hog ran down, I see the hog laying next to a small tree. PIG DOWN! My son was so happy, but not as happy as I was to see the look on his face. It has been the best Father's Day ever for me.

Fantastic. I want to know how much the hog weighed and how much your son weighs. I"m betting on the hog. Great day - happy Father's day.
