We went up to the ranch to stay in the trailer for Fathers Day this weekend, I along with a very small group lease approx. 1000-acres off Skaggs Springs road directly above Lake Sonoma . We decided to take a hike as the night cooled, I figured it was too hot for pigs but brought the rifle anyways in case we saw a coyote. Well as all good plans go we were about a mile and a half down a road when this 200 lb'r decided to become my fathers day gift.
He came out about 140 yards away on a good run followed by about 4 other hogs, I figured they were scared by a couple of does we had spooked 5 minutes before. Julia, my seven yr. old daughter was holding the rifle (JP my six yr. old son, and I were going #1 one 25 feet away, typical....
..... ) and I grabbed it as she held it up for me. I then told the kids and mom to hold their ears and made the running shot with my .240 Weatherby Mag with 100 gr. partitions. Boar rolled down the hill without so much as a squeal.
We took a few quick pics and then Mom went to get the truck and drove it back to us (on a four-wheel drive road at 4000 rpm in 2wd (she couldn't find the transfer case lever in her haste to get back before dark) - I had never heard that trucks 460 cubic inches scream so loud as she drove through the mud.
It was too big to get into the truck whole so the kids helped hold the legs when I gutted it, JP was surprised that the heart didn't look "heart-shaped" hehe.. Overall the kids thought the whole process was VERY COOL.
Well that was my Fathers Day weekend spent with the family doing something I love and hopefully sharing something with the kids that they will find important as they get older..
Oh and for all of us die-hard hunters check out all of our
Super hi-tech Camo...........................and ......................ScentLok. ............................ .hehehehhehehehehehe....
