For those of you that have applied for your hunting passes for next year, I came to the Ft. this last weekend to pick up our new passes and do a day hunt. They would not hand them out as of yet. Greg stated that not all of the new policies were approved yet by the base commander. First day they will allow for pickup is July 1st. They have not put this information on their website so I figured I would just share it here. There are some new processes to hunt at the Ft. and will be explained to you in person. I don't want to state too many things of what I heard here for it may become misconstrued. The one statement I've heard consistently is there will no longer be a lottery system for deer season. First come first serve. There will be some sort of call in feature for what area you want to hunt, if area is open you can reserve it. I wonder how long that will last.

7MMhunter, why in such a hurry to get your new permit? Can wait to slaughter them cottontails?...........hehe:mooning:

About the new registration method, how does checkout work? Call in to checkout? What if you want to change to another TA? Call in to see if the TA you want is available? Let's say TA21 was full on Saturday morning. Then 5 guys from TA21 went home on Saturday afternoon. They call on Sunday evening to checkout. The people who want in TA21 on Saturday evening and all Sunday are screwed. I'm making assumption but I hope the people running the show at FHL thought about this scenario.

Yes, to my understanding they are going to make you sign out every day when you leave an area. You will have to sign back in to the area after midnight or choose another for the next day. Again, this is what I was told at the registration building. I guess we will all experience how this will either benefit or upset us this season. However this is the policy that has yet to be approved by the base commander per greg. As far as cottontail I'm gonna let my trusty hunting partner take em down opening weekend, lol ! Come on down so we can cook em up with your special seasoning you shared with us last year!

Ltdann, looks like cjmassari got you covered.

Dan,

I got a call this morning telling me to send in my tag fee by 5 Jul. I drew 444 with 18 pts. Hope you get a call too. Nothing on website yet.

Nope, nothing yet. I had 18 pts and put in for 448. Probably means I didn't draw.

Navy SWO had hunt #444. Maybe they started at the bottom and will get to you after lunch.

Greg intimated that he was making all of the calls himself and was trying to hurry through them. He was very insistant that the tag fee needed to go in ASAP (although it's not really due until 5 Jul) and to please let him know if I wasn't going to take the hunt so he could work the alternates. I asked him what I needed to do to get my refund since they changed the fee structure around for active duty military after I sent in my $150. He told me to call his clerk later to work that.

Hope you and everyone else from JHO gets a call after lunch.

I'm sure there's a bunch of guys with the same amount of points, maybe I'll get lucky, if not, I'm in better shape for next year.

So....... please forgive the ignorant question, but I'm not a deer hunter, so here goes:

I thought FHL was A zone, and that A zone is "over the counter"? What I'm inferring from you guys is that if someone wants to hunt deer at FHL, not only do they need an A zone tag, but they also have to be drawn?

You can purchase an over the counter tag to Hunt Liggett, the guys are talking about the special hunts held on fort every year if I'm not mistaken
