I'm all ears as well. Considering a drive all the way down to Vandenburg, but wish I would have left yesterday to have extra hunting time, being that far away and all. I was kind of looking forward to the pig/turkey combo too, and from what I gather there's no turkeys on v-burg

Yeah I mailed a gentleman that works at the pro shop.

And this is the answer. The source I would say is very relaible!

*** told me that you would be my best resource to ask about Vandy. The main question I have is there any turkey down there?

\

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I have heard that there are a few on South Base. I personally have not seen them. However, south of town on Highway one I have had to stop on two occasions to allow them to cross the highway. My understanding is the chaparral is the wrong mix to support nesting as it's ideal cover for their predators like fox, coyote and bobcat. You would have to see this area to believe it. You can't walk in there, just ON there.

Hope this helps.

So I'm thinking a combo is going to be hard to come by.

I believed this is the number (831) 386-2677. There was one Saturday where the guy did not show up at the registration window until 8am. I was making phone call around to find out if I could hunt that day. While standing outside the registration window, I called that number twice and can hear the phone ringing inside. So I'm sure that's the number.

Thats the number listed on their website for weekend use, so I would assume its the right one. Thanks, I'll be crossing my fingers!

In any event, try to come out to Vandenberg and introduce yourself at the gun club on Tuesday. I have a friend coming up from Edwards to hunt that week, so I might get to show you around a bit. Let me know. Hope our talk on the phone was helpful.

It defintely was, 410. Thanks a lot. I doubt I will get down there early in a given week, more likely get there on a Thursday evening. I will certainly come by the club, would like to meet ya. I think it as just a little too last minute to make it work this go around. I'll make it down soon though!

Just an FYI, I called FHL and it looks like this weekend is a hard closure (ie no chance of a last minute opening).

Damn, I envy you guys. I got work this Saturday, so no chance of me going anywhere. I will be going to the range on Sunday and get some rounds off. Hope you guys enjoy your hunting.

Sorry to hear about the FHL being closed. Look at the bright side though, there is always going to be turkeys next weekend !!!

BTW, Navy-hunter I'm planning on turning in my FHL app this week, as soon as it gets processed I will be joining you and the others at FHL. GOOD LUCK !!!
