Had to be home by noon on Saturday to gather up the family to visit the folks in the valley. That means I only have 2.5hrs of hunting to do. Should I go? Didn't have to ask myself twice especially with the month long closure, a surprise text from L2H on early open, and the amount of tracks I saw from my last trip. Woke up at 2AM, out the door by 3. Checked the camp ground and there was only one established camp => good! Got to location at exactly 6AM, checked the wallows and pigs have not used it for at least two days. Decided to sit at the bedding area to wait for them but 7AM rolls by and not a single movement. Decided to move to higher ground and what do I see? A lone boar in the open field, rooting under the oak tree. I knew there were at least 4 others signed up for the area and I had to race my way down there before someone notices him. Took me a good 15 mins of non-stop running to get within 40 yds of him. The Sauer barked twice and he was down. While I was hoisting him onto my truck, I met a newbie FHL hunter there and had a nice little chat. Before I realized, I'm already late for being home by noon. Called the warden at home and she said to take my time... So I stopped by at camp hoping the shack would be open. Nope! Hoist him up under the tree and went to work.
