Hi all. I've been slow on getting an update on here for you guys but here it is. Went over last week and they only had a few zones set aside for us (24,30,ASP). Because 30 and the ASP have been open every weekend so far and has recieved a lot of pressure we decided to concentrate on 24. After spending all day in 24 and seeing very little sign and no Elk we finnaly spotted a cow way back in the SW corner of the zone near Hughes resevoir. She was very spooky and hauled booty into 20 ( No Hunt Zone )which was about 500 yards from were she was standing. We then spotted a bull that did the same thing. We did find lot's of fresh sign and decided to be in this area before sunrise on Sunday morning. After a night of Pizza and Beer at the rec center we woke up early and got our selves in position. Damn it was cold. After about an hour we glassed 2 bulls coming out of 20 about 500 yards off, they were working across from us towards a creek bottom that holds water right along the 20-24 border. We tried to cow call them our way but they didn't even slow down so we jumped up and started to try and circle our way around to cut them off. My partner spotted them dropping off into the creek bottom about 300 yards in front of us to drink and the creek was deep enough at that point that they couldn't see us coming. So we started closing the distance, when we got to about 100-150 away they came flying out of the bottom and went back into 20. A pickup had come around the corner on the far side of them and spooked them! DAMN!!!!! I just new that I was going to walk up on the top of the creek and get a 10 yard shot. After that encounter we decided to walk in to 30/ASP just to check it out. After much walking we decided to take a "short Cut" back through the zone by way of a big draw that was pointing in the right direction. We could see the ASP fence up at the top of the draw but we didn't plan on getting to close to it. Mike spotted a really nice Forked horn bedded under a tree so what the hell, let's put a stalk on it. While working our way across some open scrub brush filled hills we hear a truck coming. Damn, there goes the buck! A security guard from the ASP had spotted us and must of thought we were some new sort of Al Queda opereatives in our Desert Shadow Camo and carrying 1 compound bow betwen the 2 of us! He drove his freeking Expedition through some stuff I would have been scared to try just so he could check my tag. Nuff said about that hunt. 1 Weekend left and I get to hunt the same zones I hunted week 1 and saw over 200 Elk in! (15,16,12b,ASP) I'll keep you all posted on how this weekend go's.
