I went with a buddy who got drawn for a Cow hunt the week of Thanksgiving. It was my first time at FHL and i was very impressed, nice country. As far as the hunt, those Elk know where they need to be to be safe. After the first shots are fired on opening morning, they stick to the closed areas.
The bad part of the hunt we were on was the guy that gut shot 2 Elk and never found them. We cut some tracks of a herd that was in a big hurry and found a blood trail. We pointed it out to the authorities and they found one of them dead. The hunter did claim it even though he did not report that he wounded one as required. The other Cow was found the next day, not to far from where this guy flock shot that herd. Hard for me to believe that a guy would shoot at more than one Elk, especially after hitting one. I guess he was not really a hunter, just someone who got lucky enough to draw.
