Looking at the success rates for FHL in 2008, it looks to be the lowest in the state, with the exception of the AO Either sex. How is this possible? Is it due to closures in certain areas or has the elk populations dropped. This is the hunt I always put in for, but with low success numbers, I may change my thoughts. Their bull tag shows 0 hunter success for 7 tags.

Any thoughts.

Better ask wildlifebranch or another DFG employee...
Seems like a typo or mistake.

DFGelk corrected that in a couple of posts below this one. FHL should be 100% success not 0%

That would make sense, but how about the cow elk hunts in the mid 20%? You would think those all would be high success rates.

The rest of the information about success rates is correct. Not sure what happened to the two I posted were incorrect, they were right when they left the building but somewhere along the way got changed. Good luck to everyone in the draw. The only other tag quota changes that are not in the booklet are for the Northeast elk hunt, general tags is 15 and archery is 10. These were changed after the booklet went to press.

I was lucky enough to have hunted elk on FHL. the archery cow hunt is tough. the bulls are all rutted up and you can call them in but the cows are very wary.

I have been there for the Cow hunt during Thanksgiving week the last two seasons tagging along with buddies who drew. Both times the success rate was right around 50%, it is a tough hunt. It is tough because of the way these Elk are tuned into when the shooting starts going to a safe training area not open to hunting. No trouble spotting hundreds of Elk, it's having them in the right training area is the trouble. That being said, I would go back again in a heartbeat as it is still an incredible hunt in a great area.
