Just to confuse things further.....I stopped in at the hunting / fishing office today and spoke to the lady behind the counter. She confirmmed that the new rules were supposed to go into effect this weekend, however they recieved orders that nothing will change from last years rules, other than the call in when you change training areas and leave for the day. (no later than 2200) I grilled her specifically about the firearm registration etc. She told me three times that nothing had changed since last year. Because the season already started it was unlikely the new rules would be in effect until next year. She then said keep checking the website for updates. So as of today yes on calling in and no on gun reg etc. But who knows how long this will last. Good luck to everyone hunting A zone, Im waiting on the B zone opener

That makes no sense. If they don't have the teletrac system up and running how do I call in to check out each day? Also seemed like they still wanted firearms registered.

Firearms registration is MANDATORY. Don't take a chance. Read the website. :mooning:

This weekend it was the opposite. Yes on gun reg and no calling in, just the same old sign in form.

Well there you have it. I guess just be flexible. Probably won't start hunting there until after A zone season, hopefully they will have everything straightened out by then. I'll even bring some orange camo just in case. Good luck everyone and post some pics of your success !

I just got back from registering my son and his gun for the junior hunt. I forgot to ask about the orange requirement. The lady at the police department said that he'll have to come sign in in person, no calling in, but she also acknowledged that she's the backup person to answer questions, as the regular one was on furlough today.

We saw a buck on the way in, but without binoculars, couldn't tell how big he was. Clearly within legal range to me though.

Hunted there this past weekend. Teletrac still not operational, but they said "95% sure" by next weekend. They've been saying that for months, though.

No blaze orange requirenment posted or requested - everyone I saw was camo'ed up. I wore an orange hat. :)

Gibb Hall has been reduced in price from $134/night to $79/night.

The last 2 trips the gate guards asked for/about the weapons registration form. This last weekend, they did not. They were a bit on the surly side, however......

They guy at the game shack did say all the info we need about getting into TAs would be on the website this week. So we will see what happens.

From my understand on what i've been told is that FHL is going to be closed the first two weekends of deer season (training?). I have seen a lot of military vehicles driving north through Santa Maria/SLO the past couple weeks. So it seems to me they have a couple more weeks to get things in order. Although, I have not seen anything listed on the FHL website about "due to training...no hunting... etc." So things could have changed, or.....

I believe that is just a rumor, when I called the the game shack this weekend they did confirm that it will be open this weekend, though who knows if we can believe them.

If there is a lot of training going on, we can expect few open areas.

That's interesting... I heard from a reliable source that it would be closed. But that was 3 weeks ago.

7. The Registration Center will be open:
*Friday August 9, 2013 for Teletrac training 3:00PM to 4:00PM
*Saturday - Sunday August 10 - 11, 2013: 5:00 am to 5:00 pm

#7 is kind of hard to view on some web browsers, but I was able to look at it in IE.
I guess I would make sure to be there on friday at 3 and find out what the heck is going on lol. Let us know what happens.

Looks like they have teletrac up.

Anyone go for A zone opener? I'm guessing that must have been a mess with the first come first serve system.

It will however be a nice system I am guessing once deer season ends and its just upland and hog hunters. No more driving into the cantonment and hoping you get a guard that knows whats going on with the hunting program.
