Hello All!
<
I've been lurking in the shadows reading these forums for some time now and I must say there is alot of great information available here. I plan on going piggy hunting for the first time with some friends at F.H.L. in October. The friends I'm going with have been there on two other occasions with no luck. Was just curious if anyone would want to share any tips with me that might give us better odds of punching a piggy's ticket. I've also read alot of good things about Camp Roberts. Should we make plans for Camp Roberts instead?

Welcome to the list, Onetime.

I haven't hunted FHL, but there's a ton of info in this forum if you've got time to do some searching and scrolling. Also check out the info on Jesse's main page. Click here.

Camp Roberts, from my one visit, is loaded with hogs. Everything I've been told suggests that the hunting gets real good when the rains come. There's a group hunt from JHO going on down there in December, which promises to be lots of fun. YOu might wanna find that thread in the forum and get yourself involved with that one.

Good hunting!

CR! We even have the luxury of Sgt. Lowell's support directly on JHP if we need any questions answered. I hear the hog hunting is better on CR than FHL. I'll see you there in Dec.!

The last time I was at Carrizo they were having the La Panza elk hunts there. The area DFG biologists were there to observe the hunt, so I got a chance to talk to them. They told me that Camp Roberts is probably the best "public" pig hunting area in the state.

I'll have to agree with Bishop. I've hunted quite a bit of land including FHL and I think CR is the best. I've hunted FHL 4 times in one year and never even layed eyes on a hog. Without a doubt, CR.

Try CR, I've never hunted there...will be going in Dec. though...but I have hunted at FHL. There are pigs there, but I think based on what I have heard your chances are MUCH better at CR.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like we'll be headed to CR the first weekend of October. Maybe I'll see one of you up there.

You may want to check the hunt schedule at CR. If I'm reading it right, CR will not open to hunting again until October 25 & 26 and only for quail, waterfoul, pig and rabbits. It is open for fishing during the first weekend. Here's the link:

CR Fishing and Hunting Schedule

I did my first big game hunting at CR a week ago and managed to fill my G9 tag (doe) and take one piggy. It was also my first trip to CR. My advice would be to get there the day before so you can travel the roads and get your bearings during the daylight before trying to find your way in the dark of the morning...

Cheers!

Hey Steve R.,

I believe I met you up there at CR last week. I think you said your wife drove up there with you and was staying in town. Anyways, lets here the story about the pig and doe.

Thanks

I've been developing S/W for a few years all in the San Diego area. Been known as Stever at most of my jobs... Maybe... PM me and let me know which company(s).

Yup, that was me. Hanging around the check station in the sweltering heat did paid off! I discovered that my secret to filling tags was thinking I was done and threating to leave! I'll start a new thread, but what group... Blacktail or Hog....

Steve R,

Post in either one and then add a link to tie them together.
