Yes that is San Antonio Lake. I read somewhere that they have bouys (sp?) and roped off the portion of the lake that is part of FHL so that you can't drive your boat there but I haven't looked close at it when I was there. I know they are fences that are marked private around the boundary of the training areas that border private property.

Westy and I hunted FHL last weekend. We started in 10/13 but there were several guys who set up on top of us so we moved on to another area of 10/13. We saw fresh rooting on the north end of 10/13 and across the road in 7 but no pigs. One guy we talked to from 7 said he saw a string of hogs on private land north of 7. He also said the rancher has strung a new hogwire fence on the north end of 7 which will effect pig travel on and off of FHL. He said there was only one hole way down near area 3 that he found that the pigs were using. If this is true this will kill the good pig shooting on the north end, 7 and 10/13 won't have as many pigs in there now I would think.

With the roads a mess we stayed on the hard road. I'm still getting used to that long wheelbase stuff on the new truck, I'm used to the short wheelbase on my old blazer. Anyhoo, I kept on the hard trac for 2 1/2 days despite Westy poking me in the ribs and calling me a puss. Not having a winch on my new truck and knowing how goooey the FHL mud was and having sunk a truck there before I held tight. Finally I caved in and went down a side road in area 15. While trying to turn around after getting to a bad spot I sunk the front end down to the frame in oh about 1/2 seconds. Even the rear posi didn't help.

AAA laughed at me when I called for a tow, they don't go off pavement. Rannie at the check in window gave us another on base hunter's number that was pulling guys out for $100. I called and found out he had buried his truck that morning while retreiving a couple hogs they shot in the same area. Hmm. Finally got ahold of Mike at Jardine Towing. He showed up with a Scout and winch and we had it out in about 10 minutes. It took a good yank to get that pig front end back onto the gravel road, them diesels are toads.

No pics, it was pouring and when we got back to the truck Mike and his buddy were in hustle mode so we didn't dally.

There were 6 guys stuck Saturday, not sure how many Sunday and Monday but there were more.

Jardine charges $175 a yank so be careful out there.

Thanks Rannie and Rochelle for all your help.

support420, if you're going in to 29, the guy who shot the hog there said it was where the timber comes down to the river from parking lot #1. 12 came out of the river up to bed he said.

Over from parking lot #2, if you go way back and hook right up the hill near the private property we found a lot of hog skulls and skeletons back there. It didn't look like a cougar lair that was eating them. It may be where the hogs go when they get wounded and lay up. Lots of big hog skulls up there.

Another thing, 29 and 30 are walk in areas. If you whack one way back in there you've got a nasty carry to get it out. A game cart is the way to go in those areas. The check in window has one you can use if they are there. If not, definately bring one to use. Once you get the hog down to the river it's pretty flat, just a long arse walk out.
