I haven't hunted hogs in that place in 5 years, and the weekly hunting update looks like the categories for weapons are different now?

This is last weeks listing:

Archery, Muzzleloader, Birdshot: 1, 4, 8, 11, 13W, 14, 19, 23, 26, 28

Archery, Shotgun, Muzzleloader: NONE

I hunt with an autoloader 12 Gauge Slug Gun that has iron sights. I also have a Rossi single shot 20 Gauge Slug Gun that I can use.

Was my classification "NONE" or was I able to hunt hogs in the list of available Training Areas?

Thanks

your classification is none because the available areas require birdshot, so you can't shoot slug in those TA

Okay, thanks. This weekend just came on line, and it looks like TA's 17, 18, & 23 are good to go for rifle & shotgun slugs.

Ever notice that it keeps getting worse for hunters? More and more people everywhere and less and less hunting options?

weird when I hunted last there earlier this year 11 and 14 were rifle I wonder if they changed it due to it being dry weather or because they are anticipating rifle deer season?

They'll close an area to general weapons when there are military training and exercises in the general vicinity. This is for the safety of the soldiers training in the surrounding areas. The Schoonover (SP?) exercises are currently being held at FHL. They hold this exercise around this time every year. There are a lot of soldiers running around right now. When things cool down, they'll open more GW areas and re-open areas to GW that they've recently restricted.

There are some areas that are never open to GW, but that's mainly because the bordering areas are always highly populated.

It's hard to figure out, because cottontail Rabbits won't open until July 1st. (I think?) Anyway, TA-23 is a good bet in the low land along the Naci River. It's like hunting a private ranch along that stretch. I have to wait until July 1st for my Hog Only permit to go into effect, or I would beat the crowd and be there at 3:00 PM tomorrow afternoon to pickup that TA-23.

Check on current TAs open or limits for when you are going. Anywhere in the condor range will be non tox ammo. If you are looking only to the primative weapons zones, look for the water and look around the lakse. TA 13, Ta 29 are my favs as they are between water and private property, with a limited weapon...

Anybody plan on going hog hunting up there anytime soon, in a month or so? I am able to hunt weekdays and bring a hunting guest with me.

I might be able to do a weekday hunt if I'm given a week notice. Your guest allowed, is that a ride-a-long guest or can it be a hunting guest? It would also depend on the areas open for that week.

Well PETRI if you shot two deer on a Friday then i guess me and you need to talk because they were taken illegally. Durning general deer season there is no hunting on Fridays. Also the base regs 420-26 states that you can hunt Mon-Thur.

FHL is a great place to hunt if you can deal with all the military bureaucracy.

There are lots of deer and pigs there since it is situated around the northeast slopes of the coastal mountain range which is where the deer go to escape the summer heat.

Hey guys, thanks for reminding me that I need to read the regulations now that FHL is no longer a Fort and is now a Base.

It was a few years ago, im wrong on the exact day then. I Must have hunted monday to thurs, then when i said above "tues to friday". Everything was taken legally, checked in, talked to guys in window the morning of, reported my harvest, had the fhl/military police guy open the gate to clean them because i got back when it was closed. think after 5. Everything was legit, so sorry for the confusion. If you think any further then my converstation, we can talk.

It looks bad for this weekend too. Only 13B is open for Archery. I posted a lot of maps of the BLM east of Leggett. Has any one hunted there recently? I made those maps using the GIS Data Base and recalling my memory of hunts during my 50 years of hunting. Just wondering if anyone has been successful over in the BLM Parcels?
