How about cutting down the river behind the Mission to get around the new gate? I can't see why they would block that road unless it has to do with training or something they have going on there. First we lost that duck pond near cantonment and now this.

Yeah that made no sense to me. This is the army after all though...

Jesse,

I sent Nate my Google Earth file with the Training Areas labeled. Now he can go back and see where he was.

Congrats Nate and Maidendeth. Looks like you guys had a blast. I was into the big group in 7 but couldn't seal the deal. I found their tracks heading into the thick chaparral. I could hear them making all kinds of noise but can't see them. It got dark and they just wouldn't come out.

You can drive to Sulphur Spring. Just go around the cantonment area. The wire gate is open. Also that Milpitas road is driveable. I drove it all the time when it's wet. I fish tail a bit on some spots but my tacoma zip right through it.

Bummer about the pigs but good to know about the way around to Sulphur Springs road... It was dark when we were heading in and I didn't really feel like taking a wrong turn and ending up where we weren't supposed to as well as the guy at the shack said Upper Milpitas was the only way in... Good to hear about the road being driveable. We made it to the border of 7 on Milpitas road but didn't want to take any chances after we came to a flooded low point and decided to hike from there.

That's okay, the Rain God's were leading you guys to the pigs. I've talked to hunters at Liggett who have hunted there all their life and never seen one.

I'm having issues with my phone and GE right now but as soon as I get them sorted I can answer the questions about the locations.

Sorry to hear that L2H, thanks again for the tips. You were right on bud. I guess you can't win them all though. You'll get em next time.

Thanks MDN, there will be others, I'm sure.

The Gods were definitely shining on us this day. I think our luck can be attributed to a little hard work and maybe some beginners luck. MD picked a good spot to start as I wanted to start in 24. We were the only ones out there in 7 and only passed one truck coming back in, I'm sure that had something to do with it as well.

Nice Job Nasty Nate! Were you up there with XDHunter?

I didn't get to meet up with XD while out there. We scored these pigs around 0900 and we were on the road by 1300.

The river if it's up can be a bitch to go that way to Milpitas and around, you'll have to wait for it to drop or have a snorkel kit. Milpitas road was a bitch for me in full size truck and my buddy Jimmy said he's had trouble on it too. That long uphill as you go in past the pond on right, it's in a shady area and stays wet. It's not off camber that much but I was sliding bad and just made it to the top. Get a good run at it for sure. Lighter smaller trucks may have an easier go on it.

L2Hunt, what wire gate? The one over by the pond north of cantonment by the Commissary? That's a pole gate there, or it was. It's been locked since they redrew th boundary to prohibit hunting around that pond.

I think the wire gate L2H mentioned is accessed from the first right turn after passing Hacienda outside the compound. Beats going all the way to area 3 border and back.

Forgot to take some pictures of us playing in the mud. Got stuck twice in 15. Good to have JHO buddies on this trip. Saturday, was rescued by XD, L2H, and Outbrakerida. Sunday, rescued by XD. Also, thanks to unknown hunters on Nissan truck who attempted to help.

This trip, we tied several pigs under oak trees. Just need to go back and shoot it. :)

I think I know that road, be real nice to get it down exactly where to save a lot of time for folks. There is a kind of new fenced in area just NW of the Hacienda, just across the road from the pond there as you enter 7/10 area from the contanment. Where does this shortcut road come out to a gate? Over by that fenced in area? There is a road that cuts through there right before the bridge that goes east at the foot of that little ridge to right over by the pond on Sulpher Springs. The road was open last spring. Is that the shortcut road?

Engineer Res is in the new TA-13W. Try different Layers. You can save the Scanned Paper Handout Maps.

On Mission Creek Road after you passed the Billeting and Hacienda and before the pavement end. There are two roads that turns to your right. The first right turn is a paved road and you will see some junk cars inside fenced in yard. The second right turn takes you along the base of the hills and meet back with the first road just after the fenced in junk cars yard. There is a wire gate about 70 yards from where the two roads meet back together. From the wire gate, you can see Sulphur Spring about 100 yards out. That's the corner of area 10, 13W, and 7.

Be careful what you ask for. Chilli wrap will take its toll at the right place and time.

XDHunter, remember the guy that pulled the smoke pole trigger at a pig in 13E, didn't hear a BOOM, unshouldered the smoke pole then it went BOOM in the air? I think the guy's name was Solus. We need to see him dance to the chilli!!!
