First off i would like to thank everyone on the board with helping me get info for my first hunt at FHL. Also a special thanks to MAP for the fhl maps he emailed me. Well we started in one of the more popular zones and had an idea of where we wanted to start saturday morning. We parked the truck got our gear ready and started walking and glassing. We would glass for about 10-20 minutes and with 3 set of eyes we would get alot of ground covered. Saw many tracks but only a few were fresh and not much rooting. Finally found some fresh scat to see what they are foraging on. My buddy got a glance of a pig going into the thick cover so we tried tracking him down only to hear him go through thick stuff and up and over the ridge and he was long gone.
Mid day we were searching new areas to hike into and cover some ground where cars cant get to and after doing that about 3 times we were exausted.
Finally found an area to wait out for the afternoon and glass a large area and hopefully see some movement. Well about 20 mins after sun down we see pigs way out and off course out of our area and just watched them cruise by. Really got us excited cause we figure we might be able to get into them the next morning.
Well next morning got to our spot 1 hour before sun light and waited it out and nothing. Hike around all day sunday and worked the same area in that we did in the morning and while going to high spot my buddy jumped a pig and again he was long gone before he could even think about getting his rifle off his shoulder. Well we had a great time and cant wait to make it out there again and hunt some of the areas that were closed this weekend. Thanks again for all your help and looking forward to possibly meeting a few of you in the field.
