FHL Weapon registration question - Heading out Mid April

Heys fellas, I need a little help. I will be heading out with some friends who invited me along with them to a trip out to FHL mid April for a pig hunt. Most of them are first timers as well to FHL. There is one guy who has been there recently and knows the how toos. But I want be be confident myself. I've read the FHL Hunting and fishing regs, even downloaded a copy. I'm mailing in my app and $40 cashier check ASAP so I can get the registration confirmation ASAP as well. Teletrac instructions, vehicle pass, weapons registration form, harvest report form, all forms I've printed out and have in hand. 100sq inches of blaze orange, non-lead ammo, CHECK!
I know I have to pick up my permit in person at the wildlife check station. And entrance to hunting areas are first come first serve except during deer season.

My question, the weapons registration process. How do I go about that? Can someone please explain the process? Of course I'll have the form filled out and the weapons and ammo properly stored in the vehicle as always when traveling to and from. I don't want to get on base and get into trouble my first time there. Where do I stop first to register them? After that can I go directly to pick up my permit?

Also, $20 while you wait processing fee. Does that apply to pig hunters as well? And do I pay that in person?

Thanks for your help guys. I've been wanting to go to FHL since I started hunting but was never able to hook up with a partner until now. I'll definitely report back on the hunt. I'm not asking for a honey hole but if you know of a so-so training area please PM me. I will be taking my Rifle, pistol, and shotgun just to get them all registered for hopefully another trip soon after and maybe try a shotgun only TA, I got a new rifled slug barrel that also is in need of some hunting action.

One last thing. I've heard/read of a campground there. Is there one and do you have to pay for a spot or is it frist come first serve also?

Fredezze-
You will need to do one of two things for guns, either send in your info with a self addressed envelope and or go down to liggett without your guns and do it in person. You will not be able to bring your guns on base to do it. Or have a friend hold them in another car off base. If you go on onto base just go to the police station. You don't need to pay the $20 extra if you mail in your money for your permit. That is only if you need to get a permit on base the day you hunt.

As far as areas go, there are 30 or so and I have killed or seen them in almost every area over my 40 years. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,13,16,19,24,25, 27. 29 and 30. I am not trying to be vague but Liggett is only open on the weekends and there only certain areas open. Some weekends there are 10 or more areas opens other areas there is only 2 or 3 areas open. And the hogs get around and move with the training and the hunting pressure. So good to know where hogs can be in that place so you can start to learn it. Always best to go to an area and look for sign and tracks. If see nothing, move on to the next area and the next area etc.

For the gun registrations, you should do this in advance, as was mentioned.

Otherwise you need to rent a motel room in King City and keep your guns there for the day while you take the form on base and process it.

The hunting I/D card requires your photo on it, so it is best to get it in person, and just pay the extra $20 while-you-wait fee too.

The campsite is located at 35.962079 North Lat; 121.185651 West Long; if you have Google Earth. As you come into the main East Gate off Jolon Road, turn left at the first road inside the fort, and you'll find the campsite at the end of the road on your right. It's a beautiful campsite with running water at many of the sites.

The daily fee is $10 for a designated site, or $6 for an "overflow" site.

Overflow means anyplace along the fence where you can pitch a tent.

As far as weapons registration you can leave a friend and all your weapons at the campground. Head to the main entrance and the guards will direct you to the Police dept. the process to accomplish all of this is about 30 mins to am hour if no one is there in line. Make sure whoever you leave behind back at camp has something to red or keep them busy while you take care of this necessity. The reason why so long? Guards will check on your vehicle and see if you have any outstanding warrants, if clear will issue you a day pass. Once at the station processing takes about 15 mins. Then the drive back to camp.

We're coming in from the eastbay so itll be a little over a couple hrs drive. We are planning on arriving friday morning to get everything in order and maybe hit the range if its open to the public. We will be a total of about 7 of us if no one flakes. Im sure we'll split into two groups and try two seperate TA's at once. Once again thanks for the info. I think Im pretty much set.

For weapons registration, call the number on the memo for weapons registration and see if they will let you complete it by email if you can scan your DL etc. This is much less of a hassle. Also, there is no range open to the public on FHL AFAIK.

I heard a rumor about FHL being closed for a while for training, I hope its wrong though. Last year they were closed for the Turkey opener. Good luck!

On Federal holidays that fall on a Monday, you can hunt Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Active duty military get special extra privileges -- extra days but I have forgotten which. But NOT civilians. Civilians are NOT allowed off the paved roads except on hunting days. So all you can do is road-scout the paved roadways during the weekdays, which includes Fridays.

You are technically on base with your unregistered weapons. I would suggest you guys keep all weapons off base (however you want to do it, motel in King City, LPNF, or somewhere on the side of Jolon Rd off base) until they are all registered. I know some guys that left his weapon in his buddy's truck, have his buddy dine in at the Lockwood store while he head into base to register.

Correction to the pistols. They are allowed as long as they are over 6" inch barrel and 38. Cal or bigger. That is my understanding! Although I would not shoot a hog with less than a 44. Mag cause I have seen them run with a .44 in them at 10 yards for miles. IMHO!

That gate on the ease entrance is NOT manned.

The only manned gate is just outside the main base complex -- a second gate inside the base itself.

They do not man the East, the West, or the North gates. Only the single security gate near the middle of the base.

I've personally checked with the Pd in person and your good to go with weapons left at the campground. By all means you can call them to confirm this.

Looks like FHL is closed till March 29th! L2H rumor was right! Not only can he hunt hogs well, he has good connections! LOL!

Hntboar, how were you able to confirm it is closed till 3/29? I see its closed this weekend checking the site and phone number, but I didn't see anything about future weekends like they have posted before. The reason I ask is I was planning my next trip there to be next weekend so if its closed again I wanted to cancel ahead of time and reschedule my next trip. Thanks in advance.
