bubba The annual Passes are the same as your hunting licenses. July 1st to June 30th. A weekend pass is 25 dollars. All passes now have to be obtained by mail. They DO NOT sell passes at the registration window like they used to.            Fubar

Thanks, I guess I'll hold off on annual permit until July.  Hope to see some of you out there sometime this year.

FHL is A-Zone for deer

ELK- Fort Hunter Ligget Area Hunt Code 444-447

I was drawn for 444 last year, but the hunt was cancelled.  John Fisher of DFG is trying to get those tags re-issued for next year.  Hope he succeds.  Already wrote my letter to the commission.

I read nearly every post when I first go here and there are a lot of topics on Fort Hunter.  The forum has changed a lot in the last week or so (topics moving around), but a search should pull up a lot of useful information.

I just got my voucher from Fort Hunter this past week.  Now if I can only find the time and the rifle, I'll be set!

Blitzking  I was there 3 weekends ago. There were about 5 pigs taken in 29 and one in 16. The week before there were 7 taken in 29. It depends what areas are open.
Last week the base only had two areas open and the week before they were closed.
You need to check the recorded info line before you go.
If there are only a couple of areas open they may be full when you get there.
They can open or close any areas as they choose also. Its a long drive to find out its not open to hunting.                    Fubar

It sounds as if it would be a good idea to get up there Friday afternoon to register.  How crowded is it usually Saturday morning?

Moondoggy  That depends on which area you want and how many areas are open. Some areas fill faster than others and if there are few areas open, the hunters have few options. Each area can hold a different number of hunters depending on the size of the area.                         Fubar

Hi everybody,

I'm taking my father and brother pig hunting in a couple of weekends.  Can't take the old man to my areas in central ca, due to rugged and steep terrain(extremely rugged) to get there.  I got my vouchers for FHL, but never been.  What unit/s would be my best bet to see pops bag one?  Can you camp there? Thanks!!

Not asking to take anyone's spot, just figured at FHL there's so much pressure every weekend it didn't matter.  Hopefully, someone can steer me the right way.

m57 jager:  Welcome to Jesse's.  You may not have got any quick answers because there's already several FHL questions and answers posted already.  Scan down this section and check the other posts.  You can also do a search of this forum.
Apparently it's hard to pick just one or two spots because you never know which areas are going to be open on any weekend.  Also, check Jesse's main page for maps and descriptions of the FHL hunt areas.
