Ive heard it gets nasty at fhl when its raining. I have a stock chevy 4x4 will i be able to get around people who hunted it in the past should now what its like. and if it is huntable were should i not try to go into any exsperiences i would like to go up this week by myself im just not sure with the rain and being kind of new to the area.

I don't think any place is safe there when it rains. Even 4x4s get stuck there especially all the stock trucks. Unless you have a winch or money you are willing to throw away on a tow truck. The tow truck is not cheap either.

Do you think the road into the unit is bad also just getting into a unit and walking in will be alright.The last time i was there the road into 24 looked like it had little bit of gravel.

Depends on the area you are gong into don't let the dg full you either I was out there last weekend and my dads stock nissan 4x4 frontier wasn't gripping very well on some of that dg(decomposed granite)

Do not drive off the pavement after it rains, even in a monster mudder... It is a very expensive tow.
You can hunt many TAs during the rains by just parking in a parking area next to the main roads and walking in.

It's not just FHL. It's where ever there are hogs, the mud are clay.

I have chains i will take just in case. I love to hunt in crazy weather or just after a rain.

You can still hunt some good spots. The San Magilito Loop in 15 is hard DG and works when it's raining. Sulphur Springs road is asphalt and from there you can hike into 13W, 7 and 10. You also have 13E and 29 which are walk in already in the rules. You can also hunt in 16B with a bow off the hard pack. Don't let the rain stop you, just use some common sense and carry long handles shovel, tow strap and chains if you have them.

The best thing to do is let l2h go in 1st if he gets around than you're ok. If he dont then you know not to follow because he don't have a winch. But if you dont have good tires and not experience driving the muddy clay conditions walk in.

I hunted alot at camp roberts even in the rain and it can get nasty up there. I pretty much have that place figured out for hog hunting and were we can enter and cannot enter. I was thinking of taking my dads 4x4 its lifted with all terrain tires but even though it might get stuck so my thinking is to walk in for now because i dont want to pay for a bad mistake at fhl.

Don't know about FHL in the rain. But I was following my son down out of New Idria in the rain after doing some repair work on my F350 4wd one night. Walking around, the clay stuck to my boots so bad it was like having 6" spike heels, the stuff stuck so bad. I was driving a borrowed 4wd FJ Cruiser. My son was driving the F350 in front of me, going downhill. The truck was lifted, with 35" all-terrains, and all four wheels chained up with heavy duty snow chains. The mud stuck so bad the chains were invisible, all four wheels spinning badly -- just like big slick tires all the way around. Luckily we were able to use the ruts for directional control since we had the high ground clearance; but it was way slippery and scary! My son said he never prayed so much in his life!!

I would never voluntarily choose to drive in that stuff other than an emergency.

Hey my rig is special. I watched a 4door Dodge Ram tried to go up the same road I just went through half hour ago. The Dodge Ram end up in the ditch.

I did a day hunt yesterday. i must say the roads in were i was were not bad i even got into the area with no problem. the area were i hunted had lots of fresh rooting and tracks everywere but i didnt see a hog. with all the people in the area and all the tracks and rooing i think the hogs are nocturnal. i found were they travel into private land were what i think might be a good hunt for early morning when there ready to go to there bedding. I heard of one hog being takin for saturday not sure were.
