Ive got a question about FHL too. If I wanted to hunt the LPNF on the west side of the base, can I drive through the base and start there? Or do I have to start my hike from the Hwy 1?

You will need to contact the base (Rennie or one of nice people in the game shack)directly for current stats. The phone number and contact info is on the FHL hog hunting info pages at the top.

You can't access the public land by parking on base and hiking through FHL, you can check in at the guard shacks at both ends, and then drive through the base back out into LPNF or to highway 101. You can't park on FHL land and walk to the LPNF. If you do want to hunt FHL you must buy an annual pass, as it is a strict proceedure and you must follow the rules to the letter and be sure to have drivers lic., valid proof of insurance, and registration (remember 911, security is at a raised level).
And do not speed, they will bust you...

Hi everyone!

How's everyone doing?! :) Well, I just wanted to give an update on FHL. Last week 1 pig was taken from TA-29 & weighed 185lbs field dressed. This weekend, 2 turkeys out of TA-16 & 1 turkey out of TA-9. Lots of quail being harvested from all training areas. No pigs taken but lots of sightings & signs of activity.

This upcoming week we will have a special Elk Hunt which will start on Wednesday. Depending on training area availability, general hunting will be begin on Wednesday November 23rd to Sunday November 27th. Don't forget, ONLY if there's enough areas for everyone because they want to give the Elk hunters a chance to get their Elk. But I'll post again on Monday evening to let you all know for sure what's going on.

As for weather wise, it's VERY cold in the mornings! Clear blue skies in the daytime with the temperature ranging in the 70's. It's been really nice up here so hope to see you all soon! :)

P.S.
Evbouret, easymoney's right about the LPNF :) Thanks easymoney!

Hi again! I found out today that they're only going to allow general hunting starting on Thursday, Thanksgiving all the way up to Sunday. They're reserving Wednesday for the Elk Hunters. :)

Thanks Rannie. I was about to ask if you guys were open Thursday thru Sunday.

Was 10/13, 7 or 30 open last week?

I still need to get my yearly pass too.

Anybody up for a hog/turkey/quail/coyote/bobcat hunt?

Hmmm.

I believe that Rannie posted a while back(Sept. '05) that they stopped the processing of the $25/weekend or $70??/annual permit at the window. They made it a mail-in only deal. You still have to go to the check-in window to get your assigned Training Area hunt
but only if you already have a $25weekend permit/$70annual permit paid for and confirmed. God Bless.
