Well everyone, I'm going to try my luck this weekend over at my buddy's ranch up by Lake Sonoma and try my luck. The weather doesn't look that great, but heck, I need to get out of V-town. I'll be trying out my bow setup for the first time on big game and I'll lug around my shotgun with slugs as well. Anyway, I'll write a report for you guys on Monday and I'll get you guys the pictures as soon as I get them developed and my scanner hooked up.

I'm back and man are my legs sore!!! My buddy and I hiked close to 10 miles, part of it because we were a little lost and part of being in shape to where we can. We did see some pigs on Saturday, one was a mama with some piglets about the size of footballs and decided to pass on that. As for the other two pigs that I did see, they were in the wide open with no real way to try and put a stalk on them. If anything, try and stand still and pretend I'm a tree and ever so slowly try and sneak up on them. Everywhere we went, even right in his back yard, there was pig sign. A lot of it very fresh, we must have been only a half hour behind some of them. Oh well, I carried my Spirit PSE bow with a 60 pound pull, but I tried to pull it at the end of the day to see if I could do it and it was tough, I tell you what! Anyway, had a great time, saw LOTS of deer, there are no shortage of pigs on that property. This time of year though, acorns aren't falling, grapes aren't ripening, and there is plenty of water all around with the rain. My friend usually uses his neighbors pig dogs to hunt them down, anyway, a great experience in the end. He gave me access to the land for whenever I want to go, so I will definately be heading that way in the near future (midterms are coming up and Navy drill has me busy for the next 2 weekends.)

As for the bow thing, it is interesting and I'd love to take an animal with it, but it is pretty hard after hunting with only a rifle for years. Those guys on tv make the hunting look so darn easy. Oh well, persistance will pay off.

Thanks for the update. From my experience you can stalk right up on some pigs even without cover (not sure about the wise old hogs). Just be sure the wind is in your favor and move slowly. Pigs can't see very well but have a good sense of smell.
