well i went home for thanksgiving break and i had a hole week to hunt. the first day i had a decent one come in 30 yards behind me and of course winded me. i sat the same spot the next morning and saw nothing. dad and i were deciding what to do that evening and i ended up sitting in the double bull at a stock tank while he went somewhere else. we had never sat by stock tanks untill this year and dad had sat this one the last few nights and had some does and small bucks come in. so we drove right up to it and he dropped me off with all my gear. we sat the blind really close to the tank because we can tie it off to the windmill and a wooden fence. there is also a solar panel and some other junk laying arround so the deer are used to a clutter and do not even look at the blind.
well it is early and i end up laying down in the blind and sleeping a bit like i always do. i woke up to a deer trotting off and was releaved to see it was just a fawn that came in. it was a litle after 2 and i decided i better stay awake.
i got some pictures of birds drinking out of the tank. then dad called to wake me up and 230. a half an hour later i see a doe poke her head over the hill 150 yards in front of me and start comming in. not 3 feet behind her comes tines poing above the hill. i didnt even need the binos to see he was a shooter. my heart started pounding and i tried to hold my composure. the came in fast as he was rutting her hard. i thought they were going arround me so i didnt draw back, but he turned at the last minute and walked right by the blind. we was probably 3 or 4 feet from the blind as he walked by. he stood there and drank 3 yards AT THE MOST right in front of my shooting window. the windmill was not turning to hide the noise my bow would make to draw back. i was also useing the rage broadheads so i could not use the shoot though mesh.
so here i am sitting in the blind with an arrow nocked and a buck 3 yards in front of me and i cannot draw back because i can see his left eyeball. o am so close his eye looks like a baseball. i can hear him chugging water loader than heck. in those 5 seconds i had to tell myself a million times not to draw beacuse he would see and hear me. finnally he lifts his head and looks right just enough that i couldnt see his eye. in 1 quick motion i draw back and release. i didnt even use my sights or look down the arrow. he was so close all i had to do was point the bow at him and let go.
he was standing perfectly broadside, but heard me draw back. when i hit the release he was broadside, but in that split second the arrow was in the air he was turning to run. my arrow went in t the last rib. it was a perfect quartering away shot. it hit liver lung and even sliced the bottom of his heart.
let me tell you it was a great feeling seeing that arrow go in and him running 77 yards and laying down. wow that was too damn close!
he was a 5x5 27 and a 1/4 wide and a very old deer. he had a bullet in his right shoulder that was healed up and i even have a shed from him 2 years ago.
i think i will get a shoulder mount for him what do you think?

Damn! You were right on top of him! That's a great buck, the body on him is big and his neck is huge. He was definitely rutting. Congrats!

Very nice buck. Was your blind really that close to the water tank?

You should post in the bowhunting section.
