My signature is a slightly mis-quoted version of part of a poem from R W Emerson. I was farm born and raised. Many days I was out of doors to see both the sunrise and sunset. Learned to hunt, fish, gather, and prepare the bounties of the land. Often the only reward was the being there, not the taking. I appreciate the fact that others feel the same way.

The Apology

Think me not unkind and rude,
That I walk alone in grove and glen;
I go to the god of the wood
To fetch his word to men.

Tax not my sloth that I
Fold my arms beside the brook;
Each cloud that floated in the sky
Writes a letter in my book.

Chide me not, laborious band,
For the idle flowers I brought;
Every aster in my hand
Goes home loaded with a thought.

There was never mystery,
But 'tis figured in the flowers,
Was never secret history,
But birds tell it in the bowers.

One harvest from thy field
Homeward brought the oxen strong;
A second crop thine acres yield,
Which I gather in a song.

Emerson has long been one of my favorites, although much of his writings take several readings for me to fully understand him due to the language change over the past few centuries. Great quote!

ltdann, this hunt was a success in many ways and the fact that it was my first elk hunt in a state I had never hunted, applied for, planned and executed on my own made it all that more satisfying. I owe alot of the success of this hunt to the people on this sight who unselfeshly helped me and encouraged me along the way.

Thanks for the kind words and to all that helped and encouraged me along the way.

What a great time you must have had.I'd call that a very successful hunt.by you missing that elk you saved yourself a ton of work and got 100% of the thrill of the hunt.To be that close to so many elk is wonderful. Many hunters will be out this year and not see even one animal.Wow! Great story. Congrats on a very nice hunt.
