Ive killed dozens of hogs, big boars look good but sows taste much better. Ive been hunting Vandy land since '05 and havent killed a wet sow yet. Hogs are tough and as long as they are on the tit they'll survive without momma.

Few things are tastier than wild pork chops off the bbq: coat both sides with olive oil, sprinkle on garlic powder and then montreal steak seasoning. BBQ until well-cooked and then char them just a bit - totally mouth watering eats! On the topic of sows v. boars...no doubt, the older boars are more difficult to kill, and also, no doubt, the sows taste better.

That's a fallacy. They're coyote food when momma is gone. No sow will adopt another sow's offspring either. As to the taste; all we shoot are boars and they are just as good. I remember some bozo years ago touting the best pork comes from a "lactating sow". This ain't Texas--there's a lot of pressure on the hogs here.

My hunting partner and I killed a hog that gutted out at 262 lbs. last year. The only difference between it and a small sow was the backstrap was bigger. If it's handled correctly (usually) it's all pork.

Also a fallacy.

Hey awesome man. That is the perfect size for eating. Lots of pretty tender meat. I'm assuming by your name that you were a Marine? I was on Camp Pendleton with 11th Marines ending in 2009. What unit were you with?

How do you figure? Unfortunately my experience is limited to only 150 or so hogs; most of them boars. I guess I'm not competent to judge the relative quality of the meat. It probably has something to do with the fact that we butcher our own meat, make hams, make sausage and then use it in the kitchen.

How 'bout you guys continue your bickering in a PM. I'm pretty sure he didn't post this to start an argument. Give him some congrats on his hog and fight amongst yourselves... kind of taking away from this nice hog with all your bickering.
