That's one hell of a first wild boar.

You should do a European mount on that skull you won't regret it.

I would do a shoulder mount. Odds are about 1 in a zillion that you will ever see another 4 incher in your lifetime. Did you weigh it or was the 350 a guess?

Great hog. I seldom see hogs that nice and I see about 40-50 come through my shop each year. You should definately do a European mount. Make sure it is bugged or mascerated, not boiled. It will look great. If you want to do a shoulder mount, you should still do a Euro. Most all taxidermists will use fake teeth on a shoulder mount. Post some pictures when you get it back whatever you have done.

I beg to differ. All the taxidermists in my county use the real teeth.

I'd be pissed if my taxidermist took the real teeth out.

The guide estimated it at around 350, it weighed 150lbs hanging in the butcher shop. I got one with my rifle, now Im looking forward to Lake sonoma to get one with my Bow. I also got a nice Fork this year on opening day. Its been a good year so far. Ill post pics of the mount when i get it back Not sure how it is getting mounted though. I was too excited about the pig that I forgot to ask when i left it with the Guide.

Thanks, It was a crazy day out there. I missed the easiest shot of my life in the morning, partially because I was letting my dad use my hunting rifle and I was using an older one I rearly shoot. But i still jerked the shit out of the shot. After that we could not get close enough to any pigs so we ended up driving around for a while with no luck. After a few hours we drove to another ranch. The guides son was in front of us with his truck and my Dad. We drove up the road and noticed a few pigs sleeping under a tree. We got out and started to slowly walk up the road. but they got wind of us and took off. So we drove up a little ways and he radioed his son to walk the top of the hill to spook them out. We saw about 10 pigs run from the tall grass the we saw the monster I shot take straight line to his son. He turned and ran to his truck nearly getting hit by the boar. We Hauled up the road about 30 yards and saw the boar running along the hill, I put up my gun but did not have a good shot. So we hopped in the truck and tore around the corner and stopped. I looked in the passenger mirror and saw him running right for the truck. I waited until it passed and hopped out. He was about 20 yards running away and a little to my right. I fired and hit him about 8 inches in front of his left hip but the bullet went straight through its lungs and into his head. He ran about 50 yards before circling and falling. Im glad I got my hunting rifle back from my dad after he shot his. Not sure how the 243 i was using would have done, but my 308 did a great job.

I had my taxidermist put in fake teeth, Not the cheap white fake looking teeth. These are compition jaw sets. look Super real! You can't tell they are fake! You pay extra, but it's worth it! also with age real teeth will splinter.

Nice hog. I'd have the real teeth used too. Realistic looking or not, fake teeth won't look like the teeth your hog had. I've always thought that using fake teeth would be like putting a fake rack on your buck. You wouldn't go and shoot a 4x4 buck and just buy a set of 4x4 fake antlers to throw on it because they don't look the same. Same goes for hogs. I've got a hog mount that is close to 20 years old and his teeth are fine. It is much easier and less labor for the taxidermist to put in a fake jaw set, so if you are willing to pay more for making his job easier then you can see why some taxidermists are pushing fake teeth so hard. If it came down to it, and the teeth cracked after who knows how many years, it wouldn't be hard to have a taxidermist pop in a set of dentures at that point.
