Awesome hawg jb229.

I'm still in search of my 4" tusker. I saw one at FHL but never got a poke at him.

We hung a couple 300 pounders on the scale at FHL last year and that guy looks about the same or a little bigger. Them big fatties are fun to shoot but a real load to move around.

Guy's......................... it's all up to the CLIENT ! Some want the real one's in there & some want a head mount & a Euro display, thus the real one's stay with the Euro & fake go into the head mount......doesn't matter to me !
<

Regarding them splitting .............. some do split & crack after time & some don't.
I have had this discussion many times at Taxidermy competition's & my theory is
<
that SOME crack because they've been frozen & then thawed, but the ones that we just pull from a fresh kill & dry & never really seem to crack..................thus my theory about freezing....................... just a theory.

Here's a pic of my hog I took several years ago with Tom. The teeth are fake, but very close to the acutual size. The mount has a slight turn to it, I didn't like the straight on look.

Nice hog. Now with the taxidermy, its not that hard to mold the tusks, I have done that many times for clients. That way you basically have two sets, if you were going to do a euro and shoulder mount so you dont have to use someone else trophy. With the real tusks I always seal them. First I clean them, then I let the tusks dry a day or two, Then use some Mod Podge (similar to elmers glue) and water it down just a little and dump some on the inside let dry, then paint a thin watered down coat on the outside let dry. I am no dental expert, but I believe the tusks can absorb some of the Mod Podge, Preventing them from splitting

Most, not all, real teeth crack over time unless they are properly taken care of. First, the mount the taxidermist uses does not have 8" holes. If your pig has 4" teeth showing, the teeth are really 8-10" when pulled out. The teeth have pulp in them that must be removed and replaced with a non-heating glue like elmers or Mod Podge. If you use something like epoxy, that heats up, shrinks, or expands, the teeth will crack. If the teeth get too dry when you are cleaning them, they will crack. If the teeth are frozen, the pulp expands and the teeth could crack. Because of this, most taxidermists I know use fake teeth. In my Euro mounts, I spend a lot of time protecting the teeth and still have to do some repair work some times. I've seen many mounts with fake teeth. Most looked real, some didn't. I've seen many mounts with real teeth. Most were cracked or damaged.

Holy Bejesus!

That is a big porker. I've never seen one like that yet in person. I hope you get many more. There is no hope for your pig fever now.
Best of luck.
